The results of the 2011 Oregon Trail Rally will remain provisional pending the decision of a RallyCar Protest Committee about a claim filed by the Super Production team of Travis and Terry Hanson against Ramana Lagemann and co-driver Chrissie Beavis. The Rally America National Championship points standings will not be updated until a committee until this matter is final

A Protest Committee has been assembled consisting of individuals familiar with RallyCar’s rules. The Committee will interview relevant teams, officials, and witnesses to render a decision.

The outcome of the protest will have a direct bearing on both teams’ Oregon Trail Rally, Class, and overall Championship standings.

Any organizer, official, entrant, or competitor may appeal the decision by the Protest Committee within 30 minutes of its announcement. The appellant then has 10 days to submit their appeal. An Appeals Committee will be formed during the 10 day period and they will have 15 days to make a decision based on the appeal.

RallyCar will release a statement once the Protest Committee makes a decision on the Hansons’ claim.

Guess it has to be something that the rules would deal out a time penalty for (or a points penalty. crew being interviewed so probably something in the service park?

There was an illegal service question, Friday night at the drivers meeting it was stated that there would be no penalty's for Friday night, thats pretty much the end of the story

Wasn't there, but as far as the no penalties for Friday night thing. What utter bullshit. If that's the case then why bother even scoring anything on Friday night. Make it be a mandatory exhibition for the fans and be done with it.

I wonder if the "no penalty" announcement was intended to mean "no check in penalties", which would make sense for what I assume was a rallycross in a field or something.

Grassroots rally. It's what I think about.

Wsn't there so only bits and pieces....Ramanas car had issues and wouldn't run or run right or something. They handed in a time card and popped the hood in a control zone. Someone connected with the rally asked them to move out of the way. Then the crew showed up and started working on the car. So working in a control zone and or service in a non-designated area type of deal and probably late for a stage start.

This is a traditional no-no. At a 'normal' stage they would have been out of the event because the crew would be many miles away. Portland Raceway is anything but traditional. Because of the layout, schedule and confusion that ensues it has been policy in the past not to issue penalties for timing/scoring issues. It has been scored on stage times alone, which is fine for a lot of people. I've heard it said many times that events should be scored on stage times alone.

Anyway this just happened to be a big deal points and money wise. Unfortunate at least. There is a difference between illegal service and checking in a minute late, but that may not matter. Protests are always nasty business, necessary but nasty.

The protest will be decided by a committee and then either party can appeal that decision, co it could be another month or so before resolved.

Friday nite at OT has been a spectator event for years. The whole purpose is to get people in there to watch the cars. The format and track aren't wonderful for rally but Oregon Rally Group puts huge effort into making it work and the crowds seem to love it. Its unfortunate tyheir efforts are a bit overshadowed with the protest , however the crowds never see stuff like that so its still a success.

Whenever we wander from our set rules to accomodate a situation we open the door for bad situations and protests to pop up. People can take advantage of situations and stuff just happens.

I'm sure the results of the protest will be unpopular with someone and there will be no real winner.

It's one of the coolest pre-event events in the entire calendar! No. It is the coolest. I think Max Attack should have stayed at Oregon just for the level of exposure and coolness of day one. The ORG's efforts are hugely appreciated by everyone!

I also think they should make it into one big power stage and not even be part of the National rally. You can win bonus championship points and maybe earn time penalties for not starting stages Friday night but accumulated time starts at zero on Saturday. Nothing worse than DNFing the event at what is really a cool Parc Expose. Plus it encourage things like people to run worn gravel tires to give a good show.

I've only seen online videos, but yes it does look like an Epic day 1, great exposure for our sport. Great idea, seems to work out quite well.

It has to be scored and part of the rally because...people risk their equipment to put on the show. A DNF at Friday may be a DNF for the whole weekend. The chance of fixing a serious issue is nil and there is a hellova drive to Saturdays stages. If it wasn't scored their wouldn't be many people risking their cars for the crowd.

It is great watching someone do a smoke show or completely noodle a corner trying too hard. The crowds are awesome and it's too bad to have the hard work and event marred with the protest...right or wrong.
