Used Sprinters are finally starting to get to an affordable price range. I'll probably get one to daily drive and use to tow in the next year or so.
Very bad idea Grant. My Uncle works for Seattle Metro [bus system] (first as a mech and now as a driver), and according to him they bought several for use as breakdown vans. They don't really carry the weight of the tools and spares; and require way to much maintenance themselves. Mileage is good.

This year I purchased a 1984 Grumman kabmaster (old Wonderbread truck) for work. It sits on a Ford E339 commercial chassis, has a Izusu 6BD1 Diesel, a BW T-19 4 speed and a Dana 70. Cost $1100 and only has 210K on it. Barely. Broken. In. 17 mpg.

A sister company of where I work, Live TV, uses them. Seems to be holding up better then the chevy van they had.

Those vehicles are all over California, especially the bay area. They seem to be the preferred vehicle of small goods transportation. They're dorky looking, but are never in my way.

I'm late to the party...but I just saw an article about these, and the costs that are being added in to avoid taxes.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125357990638429655.html

CN: Factory in Turkey adds seats and windows, vans are imported as "passenger vehicles", seats and windows get tossed in the trash before sale.

Damn chickens...

I want me a truck that gets "good" towing mpg .

a van would be better, i think , for going to rallies.

I wonder how many other want the real ford transit van or if its just a few quirky rally guys ?

Who the hell knows what a 'real Transit is?

A real transit with a nice 2.5 turbo motor and nice shifting 5 speed---90% of all vehicles sold in 'Merkuh are autotragique.

How I long for a real Transit..(sniffle) Last one I had was a MkII with a 2.4 York diesel....

Here you go John, the "full size" transit will be coming to the US and built here. They are going to call it the T-Series. Will be interesting to see what motor options it comes with.

Diesel diese diesel, and hopefully without the "mercedes tax" like the sprinter.
