Hey my names Ryan. Was told this was the place to be for real rally info and help. Just getting into rally, currently have an 86 jetta coupe set up for auto-x. Looking forward to getting this thing back up in the air where it belongs. Some quick specs, 86 jetta coupe, 1.9 tdi swap, front mount intercooler, ecu tune, full 3" turbo back exhaust, approx 160 hp ( for now) vr6 jetta 5x100/ disc brake swap, vr6 front a-arms and cv shafts. Looking forward on getting the build started and getting some advice from the vw guys! Quick pic

Welcome Ryan! The only thing I know about vw's is I froze my ass off in my friends mk3 or 4 jetta last winter so don't take advice from me. However I do know one thing...

... people get a little edgy round here if you don't got a name, general location and some sorta age on the side bar thing to the left or in your signature. I think the idea behind it is something to do with accountability or having some half ass clue as to who we're talking to. Actually it came in handy to be able to recognize a few names at events. Anyway, get it down so the bigger bullies don't pound on ya!

Good luck with the build, get er gutted and get some pics of a cage going in!

Jettas can be made to work. Your car looks a little too nice to want to destroy! Please tell me it's not your only vehicle. Go and volunteer at a local rally (not rally cross) to get a first hand. Be ware of the internet trolls!

The other Robert on here is also very knowledgable about VWs. He is producing rear axle spindle adapters that you should look at.

What is the red line of your 1.9?

Re: New guy

Yay, more MK2's! thumbs up

First off, it's an Ontario car. Any rust damage at all on the unibody? If the answer is yes then go find yourself a rust-free Mk2 to use as a donor. No point wasting time fixing rust damage on a new build. This way you can still drive your regular car while you modify the unibody, put the cage in etc...

In the meantime, read these pages from beginning to end to get an idea what you are in for. You can probably ignore the syncro conversion stuff, but the rest will give you a good idea what is involved in building up a MK2 for rallying.

PLease note... Those two links show builds being done for rulesets other that CARS. There will be subtle differences in how you are required to build yours. Read the CARS rulebook very carefully.

Welcome!! Another TDI rally VW!!

Watch for the trolls under the forums around here. But have fun and enjoy the build.

What engine, chip, injectors, turbo you running?

Looks like you've done quite a bit already to kill the common VW issues. But do watch for the rear mk3 axles.

Rally on!

OMFG, how could you pick That car?

don't you know over in Elbonia the proud natives only rally the Elbonian model 2 in taupe or turquoise . the Elbonians invented the sport and how they do it over there , is the only way , anyone should ever do it, and while you are entitled to your own opinion , you should know that your own opinion is wrong, but if you are lucky i can loan you mine for a while ....
