making stock fuel tank better?
December 08, 2014 09:43PM
Been considering ways to make the stock fuel tank on the rx7 suck less. This GSLSE model tank has a removeable section so i have been considering making a sump and running in tank pumps.***

can i add foam perhaps?

the tank becomes worthless at about 1/4

*** i tried external pumps but the stock location is down low where 1) rocks are and 2) my links are. running them above the tank made vapor lock on hot days....

Double check your rule book and talk to your local tech guy. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Does the pickup sit inside a spiral baffle / swirl pot? If not, that might help when you're tossing the car around (if your system has a return line, dump it in the swirl pot)

That is freaking awesome! If this works like they say it does, it belongs in every single rally car and road racing tank. I wonder what fluid they used to mimic gasoline in the test booth?

Very few rally cars I know that need something like this.

Making every last drop of fuel in the tank useable is a strong argument for needing this device.

And not sucking air, ever.

And I will assume that it works as a badass filter, so even if the fuel tank is half gravel by volume, the crap won't make it past the pickup.

Anymore the legs of a rally are so short that most cars barely burn through half a tank. Running less fuel to save weight is silly. So there are really only a small handful of cars that have a need.

There were quite a few other things at PRI that I found more interesting.

I think dropping 40lbs out of a small NA car would be a great performance gain.

I've had epic dumps but I don't think I've ever lost more than two pounds in one sitting. So to speak.

(I've never understood the "lose weight" mentality. For one, it assumes that everyone is overweight, and is insulting to those of us who've battled trying to not look like a skeleton their whole life. For another, it seems to absolve the need. I suppose if someone is overweight, they should just try to drive some 5500lb truck instead?)
