Well gotta admit a 60 degree V8 is kinda unique..Almost as unique than a 90 degree V6.

You are going to have great time being "unique" until a sixteen year old girl in Suzuki Swift hands you your ass, repeatedly.

Good luck.

The problem is this: You've come to a forum where the majority of folks that are here have been to the edge, want to be on the edge, or have been exposed in some way shape or form to the edge and want to see more.

That cliff edge my friend, is rally racing. And its in the blood of many a person round these parts.

And since the primary goal is getting to the edge again, it might be difficult to get opinions on anything else. Not that there aren't opinions. This place and its members have them in spades. But you need to be uber clear from moment one if you want to talk about something other than the chase.

Its possible! Just understand that while plenty of folks pass through the doors here and are gone after a week or two, and still more start projects aplenty (without leaving word if they ever finished) RARE is the person that comes here, starts the sideways play and then *doesn't* want to rally in the real deal.

In my opinion for what its worth, I <3 the 2.3L old engines almost as much as I love the 2.3 duratecs. If you are just lookin for something to fart around in, drop some stuff in it and go nuts. For your own safety, depending on how much woods you are looking at and how fast you could be going you might want a basic cage and kill switch in it. No need to have relatives finding you weeks later out in the boonies. If you are just lookin to go fast on dirt paths but might see yourself needing a winch to get out, you might throw one of those on. Night time play can always benefit from some lights...

Just a warning though. If you hit the gravel and you find yourself wanting more, you may have to undo alot of what you are about to do to make things legal and legit should you want to go a sprintin or full on rallyin.

But, since you've said this is just for kicks, I have seen both a 4x2 and 4x4 set up from a ranger with the ranger bod removed and an old stang mounted on top. Gets you past a bunch of things that the fox body wasn't good at flex wise by needing to add stuff to it to make it stay on the ranger goodies. Couldn't tell you a lick of any of the technical details but the guy seemed to have alot of fun with it (till he went to hill climbs/thank the gods for safety cages).

With that diatribe out of the way just remember: the more specific you are in your question and intent on this forum the more likely it will grant you positive results.

First there are no "pro" in North America... There are lots of fan-bois who know nothing and think if somebody spends a ltta money that that makes 'em a "Pro"..
No it makes 'em po.

Second, this is supposed to be a forum around building RALLY cars or things like them..

Not just hacked to shit crapmobiles...

I have been know to ask people why the fuck for many builds---because I've seen 30 years of children trying to assert their uniqueness in dead end ways..

In fact the very argument makes it a sure thing that you probably will never build anything like a rally car,,,because that's not the important thing, massaging the mind, imagining people goin' Who that's soooooo kewl. So unique!!

No you're getting defensive when there is no need to get defensive..
Your idea is dumb in one respect; the convert part....

Go for it, money means nothing, time is nothing...(imagined) image and "uniqueness" is everything But don't expect advice on how fuck-up a car here

But if you persevere on this plaything, good luck..

for the fox i would go with a 3.8 v6 from an sn95 1994-2004
check out https://www.v6mustang.com/forums/

if you use the 1994-1999 3.8 bottom end with the top end from the 2000-2004
you end up with a light weight beast, that you can parts for

i am planing a cage. sub frame conectors and adding lights.

i am building the vert because of several things.

1. i already have it.
b. it is a good car.
c. cheap parts
d. what i learn on the vert can then be used in building another fox.
e. if i do rally then i would use a fox. they are cheap. easy to build. but not a vert

i cam to the rally group because ik that fox bodys have been used and that this would be a good place for help

and tdrally. i have the pics of that car. i liked the front end. looks like a good way to add front lights

Based on what you've asked for, I think you will find more answers on the Race-Dezert or Pirate4x4 forums looking at pre-runner builds. 2WD, big tire, moderate to big power with a lot of tubing to make up for soft chassis. Should be fun, but that sort of car isn't really a rally car.
