I'm buying harnesses and wondering if the skinny HANS specific belts are annoying or anything if you aren't actually using your HANS. I know I wont be using a HANS 90% of the time I drive this thing, since I'll do just 1-3 rallys a year. Should I just get the normal 'fatter' harnesses. FYI RACEQUIP has FIA 2019 on closeout on the online ordering page.

Went ahead and got a pair of FIA 6pt, skinny shoulder HANS compatible, pull-up harnesses. I had a 3 point Schroth in the shed and those are the same belt width of the HANS compatible 6 points and those worked just fine in the past.

I don't like 3in belts without a head and neck on. I find them incredibly uncomfortable as they cut into my neck. They also seem to fall off most restraint systems.
I think you made the right decision, and pull-up on the lap is the shiz nit!

The skinny belts are fine when riding without a Hans. I did not really notice any difference between the wide and skinny belts without the HANS. With the Hans they were much much nicer. Mainly with getting the belt on top of the HANS.

The only thing to be careful with is that many of these belts actually say only valid with a HANS device. So if you have one of the other head and neck restraints the belts are technically illegal.

Had to replace belts because I was using a defnder and Brian a safety solutions restraint. Even had Allan call hurst for us. Other than that I liked them

Up until the ~80's race harnesses used to be the same size as the now "skinnies", the thick ones were for Grand Prix.
