Brakim's handbrake handle
April 02, 2015 03:59PM
So we've been helping them out with the Lambo build and supplied them with seats and harnesses and are going to be putting Evo Corse wheels on the car for gravel use. Matt also asked about doing a cool handbrake setup, sent it to Mark, few ideas flew around and voila. Needs a few tweeks and need to get our anodizing setup going but I think it's going to be pretty dang cool. Hope to throw chips sometime this month. Mark's been fine tuning the tool paths and such.

It's always fun getting new projects through a CNC machine. I look forward to seeing what you guys are doing in the future. I hope to be getting a 3-axis or 4-axis VMC in the next few years.

Are you guys running the Bridgeport off of a floppy, USB, or directly connected to a computer? The reason I ask is that complex geometry (lots of "splines" like in text) can sometimes be much more than what a floppy can hold, or it can be much larger than the 256MB the machine probably has for internal memory (if it doesn't read from a storage device).

This can cause some serious issues if the program ends prematurely and sends the tool back "home" in the most direct line possible.... sometimes through the part that you are working on.

It's a Mach 3 conversion so directly off computer.

Good spot. Pivot and clevis points are changing. This was a "guess" early design. Paths in 4-6 hour range...

Did you do this with a router? I have a cnc router and laser cutter, but I've never tried aluminum. Laser cutter can cut plastic and some wood but i'm sure it can only engrave aluminum.

I run mach3 on the router as well, and use vectric aspire to do the toolpaths.

CNC would likely work better. CNC mill. Gotta get some tooling before chips can fly.
