Been on the darkside since first startup... RWD 5cyl turdboat

How do you even do that in one of these cars?

Yank the front shafts. Stick an axle stub in the hub to keep the bearing together, and either weld the center diff of your 01A or swap in an 016 from a 4k (locking center diff) and shorter gears.

B3 coupe quattro- 20v 90-91 trann case 01A- torsen center differential
1st-3.545
2nd-2.105
3rd- 1.429
4th-1.029
5th- .838
final 4.11:1

B2-4kquattro -1984-tranny style 016-locker center differential
1st-3.600
2nd-2.125
3rd-1.458
4th-1.071
5th-.829
final- 4.11:1

John, the subaru tops are on this winters project list. Gonna try to get some more caster out of the deal at the same time.

If I hadn't seen it in person, I'd never believe you were married with all that perversion going on. winking smiley

I told her that it wasn't often that they let you out of the asylum and you were unhappy about going back into a straight jacket.

In all seriousness though nope not at all.

I think i was the grumpy one. Her and your kids were quite nice and behaved. They did steal my crew partner. Best crew ever, didnt talk too much, played soccer with me, didnt steal my water, etc. smiling smiley

What engine and class for this car? I've always thought a 90 or coupe coukd be decent for open light.

Plan is to run the 7a which is a NA motor and run open light with it. I'd love to get it up to 220 WHP, I think it would really fun at that level. But I'm not sure that will be possible without finagling the Compression higher.

We ran a 90 Sedan quattro for a bunch of years with the 7A. More power would have been nice once in a while but it was still a super fun car.

(Shot of the guy we bought it off of from the Baie)

Ah that's awesome. Would love to hear more about what worked and what didn't while you were running it.

What's that cooler up in the front in the bumper? I'm guessing it was still an NA motor?

Previous owner had a (S2?) turbo motor stuffed into it. We bought it from him with the 7A back inside. Most of the pain we went through while owning it was dealing with the frankenstein legacy from the swap.

It's a tough old bird. Still competing today with the guy we sold it to. drivetrain was pretty stock, though he did add the vacuum rear diff lock from a 4000(?), don't really know the technical specifics on that but it worked. Biggest problem we had with the thing was that the 90Q Sedan had different brakes that appeared to be utterly specific to the 90Q20V Sedan and went out of production a long time ago. Replacing all the front hardware with CQ bits so we could actually find parts for the thing was on our list when we sold it.

Getting some work done this week. Got the tranny and motor separated for the first time. Got the tranny drained, the exhaust manifold off - only one stud broken off in the thread! sad smiley

Still messing with the wiring, I think? its getting close to where I can pull the harness out of the car and slice and dice it up.

Need to spend some time cleaning up the motor - its a fire hazard in its current state with the amount of leaves, grass and acorn shells sitting in the nooks and crannies.

More fun to come, need to order clutch soon... ($$$)

Cutting up the harness is a pain, my condolences to you. I gave up within the first hour and made one from scratch. I used clutchnet for my clutch, but I've recently heard of a couple people having issues with getting things on time from them or lost orders. I had no issues but YMMV.

Also note in this movie that the factory does away with the top two trans bolts. Makes the job a 100 times easier to remove and install.

Ah, from engineering perspective, I hate the thought of doing something like that...

Not ruling it out, I'll probably take a closer look upon assembly. Crazy...

They actually cut and plate the top of the bell housing to clear the steering rack as well. Also notice the trans mount on the tail of the tranny. Mounts to the tunnel instead of the normal chassis mounts. No ears in front to hog up all the room or mounts on the chassis to get in the way of exhaust. Pretty slick. 15 min gearbox swap, pretty crazy lol.
