Fuel tank bulkhead

So I'm brainstorming ideas on how I want to go about sealing off the trunk area due to the fuel tank being behind the rear bulkhead. Is it acceptable to just build a box around the thing instead of either one, building an entire new bulkhead or two, patching every small(and a few quite large for that matter..) hole in the factory piece?
