Time to run new exhaust on the volvo. Running 2.25" tube straight back like f-cup guys, up and over axle straight to muffler. Anyone have suggestions on a good muffler in the $60-$80 range? Is that an oxymoron?

It's my own ignorance on parade here. The only influence I've had is the interwebs. What size would you recomend?

The Volvo 16v 4-2-1 rally header I just got from the motherland only has a 2-3/8ish collector (measured on the OD).
On a turbo motor I could see this making a difference, but not so much on a stock-ish NA motor.

Looking forward---so you spend once, not twice..2 1/2".. That is what the top shop who did so much development work for so many other shops figured to do on performance STREET cars..

Admittedly, he's a friend, I imported some of his products for 15 or more years and he was doing rally exhausts since he was a kid.First in hid dad's business in the mid 60s---Dad supplied all the race, rally and sporty systems for Saab and Volvo's aftermarket sales, then he took over in the mid 70s....and I started importing his stuff in 1984...
We worked together to do Saab 900 turbo street systems---3".....and we agreed on 2 1/2" for n.a. motors just on the grounds of it is a foundation for future builds---the old assumption that folks will stick with the car and progressively build up things over time as they can afford it...
I still do some business with him, now me selling him stuff....like I profile 139mmc-c rods for his MkII Group 4 Escort Historic class car and forged CP pistons to go with the long rods (stock piston compression height on that motor (Pinto) is 41,6mm center of pin to the top..Stock rod is 126.5mm so 12.5mm longer, so new piston comp hgt is 28.5mm---and over 300g lighter, improved angulation so moar powerz, and much nicer engine response, less wieight means less vibes and stress on the crank..win win win..

You might find it interesting that on higher powered 2,0 and 2,3 cars--ie around 220-235 they cone out from the header to 3".

But what do they know anyway? I'd ignore them..We're all so much smarter in Merikuh.. Almost by divine right. Just look at the average club car there and look at the local guys here. Nuff said.
Merikuh merikun merikuh

Fuck yeah.

Agreed. For price and quality, it's hard to beat a magnaflow muffler. I run them on my Xterra and S14. Nice sound too.
