Lima vs duratec
November 03, 2016 08:55AM
i picked up a second fox mustang a few weeks ago, this was a lima 2.3l na that was converted to a winsor 5.0 but now has no engine or trans. the plan was to install the spare 5.0 and aod i have in stock. then my thoughts shifted to a turbo coupe or X ratty 2.3t, but now i'm looking at a duratec 2.3 or 2.5 with the option of a turbo kit.

what are the thoughts on such a swap.

at this time i plan to keep it a street car but i may change my mind later.

I'm a huge fan of duratec engines, as is everyone racing an old Ford and not using a BD engine.
Cosworth performance parts are stupid cheap for them as well.
As a side note, a friend of mine just made 837whp @ 42psi on a heavily built up 2.3 Duratec. Granted, it took him a few engines to get there...

Lima is probably cheaper but not as reliable? Depends on what you're putting it in, it would take some work to get one in a Merkur.

Merkur and fox mustang are the same (or very similar) engine mounting points (sharing the lima). Here's a thread on MCA about a duratec swap into a Merkur: http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=10278&hilit=Duratec+swap

And one into a '92 Mustang from Turboford: http://forum.turboford.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=000058;p=0#000007

I don't know what is better, but lima is likely more straightforward.
