All I know is that for my Lemons XR4, I took the "smooth gravel" Group N setup, extrapolated slightly to the rear springs I had in stock (600lb), then figured out the ratio to the front and found some cut down stock rear XR springs were pretty damn close to "right on" for the front. Car has just enough "assiness" to rotate, but is very forgiving with a light correction on the wheel.

For rally, rip off the Ford Motorsport setup for springs and dampers, add some double-skin and/or plating to pickup points to account for pounding on gravel vs. tarmac, and get some mother fawking seat time. I SUCK driving, it takes half an hour at speed for me to get my bearings; until you reach the point where the internal maximum attack light comes on reliably in under a minute, leave the damn setup alone.

Here I sit after taking 3rd overall at Sandblast in Mothra's old Merkur on John's struts and pretty much stock everything else (suspension wise).. reading old anarchy posts and pondering suspension upgrades..

I can drive one of these things like the videos when needed, and I can dial in the horsepower that the old cosworths had if I want to (280ish now around 8 psi). I need a little more turn in and I'd love to be able to run over more stuff-faster.

Viva la forum. I'll never find this stuff in face-space 7 years from now.

the XR4Ti is still a great rally car until you need a windshield for it.

Unfortunately that doesn't help much since it's in Calgary.

Eventually I'll order whatever the minimum is to ship them from the UK probably. there's a local-ish merkur collector that has a spare one for $500 if I get desperate.
