lol. bumping the inch of dust off this thread...

I still got this project car and plan to get it out of the corner and make some progress soon. It's waited it's turn....

Anyway, the (proverbial) dust cover is back off the car.

It's intent was always a legal 'vintage' / period correct car, so it just grows older and strrranger.

Well, might be interested in a built bottom end with nice longer rods, shorter lighter forged pistons and a steel flywheel then?

Cause I know somebody who is going to have an extra one surplus.

Now you got me thinking about the Manta, which I am having trouble with, but I am past the shortblock now and having head issues.. bought a cheater-as-hell shortbock from some TN boys running , I shit you not- a sat night roundy-round car with a S-10 pickup body on it turning 9k. This was another good block with knifeedge crank some tasty pistons, and a set of rings in the box.. so I buy the head too but apparently this is a '75-up manta head and something about now you can only get the '74-down cam bearings now.. so you have to kinda line-bore the head to make the 74-down cam bearings in the 75 head (I had already had the entire head perfect but cam bearings weren't right.. tore up 2 sets of cambearings- suck. and nobody local had a table/mill that would hold it right or something.. and 3 cam bearings are not all the same size... and blah blah that I don't pretend to understand quite as well as I'd like to..

anyway :

Head is in Birmingham at some shop that thinks they can make the magic happen with the head, and then we can install the tasty bumpstick, bolt the damn ported to the freakin max head on my shortyblock, and viola- then look at mounting my manifolds and SU's or webbers or whatever ... I want to use the headers and exhaust already in the car, everything's already wired and I can pull the stock 32/36 tired stock/org motor and plop the better motor in easy peezy. Or if not then another motor but gaddamit I want to try to keep it Opel and reasonably period correct.

..for most agonizingly slow and no-budget "why would you do that to yourself?" build.

and then I will shine like a little star ! haha.

Chip Foose : will completely rebuild an an entire car with no budget cap and 20 people round the clock, car done in 5 days start to finish...

Me: heck I might take 3 years just to get the wiring all wrong and blow up the motor. haha.

yes Bob yes... the Manta and Monza projects are both poised for progress..

both have been languishing for years, but I have cleared out a few automotive distractions. These have always been long-term projects.. but the long-term part is getting too long.

Momentum is hard to maintain, but I need to get going again and get to the next level, whatever that might be, before I get distracted again.

opel update pics are looming..

I'm waiting on more progress for the Manta, I need inspiration for the one I just picked up.

OK good idea... I kept a whole lotta Opels going years ago and there is still ways to do it despite the way the cars have nearly disappeared even in Sweden where from the mid/late 70s until the early 90s they were absolutely THE car to have there and were by far the most popular car---especially the Ascona B...

Start that thread and maybe there i can post piccies of the 2 CIH motors that should 9one day) be assembled for Dave Clark---on built way back in maybe 1988? 87? Can't recall now..
And oddly enough, second stop on todays errand run is to pick up some steel to make 2 nice lighter steel flywheels using known good pressure plate for n.a. use---haven't weighed the stocker but it is a heavy lump of iron.

we could have a joint-Rally/Rallycross '74 Manta Build- thread rofl! haha.

i already have the old sad thread on opelgt.com but I could update here and there for a while..

If you're like me you will look at anything RX or rallyish. it's all good. lol.

I'm def not going to inspire you Evan, ... other than I might be a little more 'down the rabbit hole' with my Manta than you are...

- Current plan is to take my Manta to Hyperfest, get a logbook..
or at least get a thumbs up on the cage so maybe I can try to do enough details to run Rally WV and get a 2015 rally in the book. If I can make RVW I will putt fast enough to try to stay ahead of the course-closing car .. of at least throw gravel on the windshield of tow/sweep.. lol.
