What's wrong with a well-welded X with tacos?

The first one looks rather difficult to get out of. Especially if, after having rolled the car, you're not sure which way is up. But it's in a 2002,right, so the picture is probably deceiving. Creative though. Are the tubes bent? Or just cut around each other and welded?

As for Paddy's, why does it look like there is a big gap between the cage and the A-pillar, up by the corner? And not much better for escape. But I've never had to escape from a car, so maybe I shouldn't comment.

but i like the idea of a full lenght tube from b-a.

scott:

the tubes are bent to pass eachother. i would not cut mine. hard to tell if he did.

Two continuous bars are inherently stronger than one and a cut, but provided you gusset the X well, it's really more an engineering quibble, the cut X has worked (and not worked) in the past. FYI, I'm planning on putting a big spreader plate on the outside of my X joint.
