You've got the right idea, it will work just fine. When I've done Lexan in rally cars I've made the front windows quick release. With a framed window just use the stock channel and moulding. I make a couple of brackets at the bottom and attatch the bottom of the Lexan with a couple of Dzus fasteners. A washer attatched to the door somwhere with a string or wire so it doesn't get away provides you with a tool to undo the Dzus fasteners. Then you should be able to just slide the Lexan down and out of the way. That way if you roll over and the door gets jammed or something you won't be trapped. Plus it's safer than glass because it won't break in a roll and allow your head or arm outside the car.
