Is there an LSD that will fit my car?
May 03, 2006 11:17AM
I've tried searching everywhere, but to no avail. I have a FWD 1.8l Mitsu Galant, as you probably know.

Anyone have insight?

Thanks!!

my insight is this; it is my insight. And mine alone. It is this:

Maybe one should choose cars where there are know supply of actual competition parts, such as LSDs, alternate final drives and above all detailed INFORMATION.

Just an insight.

Drop in a G62B with the 4wd box and get on with it.
It will be easier in the end than farting around with a puny flaccid 1,8 in a car that large.

Always with the snipy comments John, even when I come in super nice and ask politely of yours, and others' knowledge.

I bought a fucking rally car for $850 bucks that's almost ready to rally, and i'm really stoked. Seems to be in the spirit of your vaunted Group F too. What's not to like about that?

You don't have to shoot everyone down who doesn't have an XRATTY.

I bet there is a Phantom Grip that will fit it. Some like them some HATE them.

and then there is always welding. In FWD it works great if you have the arms of Magila Gorilla.

Thanks Mothra. I found an LSD on fleBay that fits an eclipse tranny, but only 96-00 I think. I'll keep looking.

Eli, it isn't a snippy comment.
And YOU shouldn't be talking about snippy comments: your Spelling Nazi comments to the Irish fellow "Rallynut" are the epitome of pointless snippyiness.
>
As for "almost ready to rally" well fine, but it is very useful advice to make sure that there are parts and information for the inevitable growth that virtually every wants as soon as the see how poorly they do.
If you think it was snippy then you should have said "Any insight which will stroke me and make me feel just marrvvy about my new car which I can't find any parts or info on .
I was more making a joke on the "any insight" part.

So you doubly missed the point.

You missed the both the meta-message and the joking message because you are too serious.

Learn to read and trust what people (who have been helping folks get started for 22 years) say even if you don't like what you imagine the tone is.
Remember what Skye posted about the actual study showing that YOU have barely a 50% chance of guessing the TONE of what I am saying, so knowing that a person would be wise to be careful about assuming that somebody is being snippy----
just because YOU get snippy doen't mean everybody does.

A snippy comment wouldf have been something more akin to:
Duuuuuuude, you are sooooooooo fuckin fucked duuuuude, may as well spell it DUD, you'll never find anything soooper bitchin for that heavy slow POS pig POS, whadda loser....
and on and on.

Eli, don't get in such a tiff. The XR4TI doesn't meet all those criteria John stated. There isn't anything reasonable for the stock diff. I could buy a Quaife for over a grand and a good ring and pinion for $995. If we ever get the Supra stuff figured out it'll be a different story though.

Now to answer your question, I don't know. Unfamiliar with the 1.8 engine and tranny. John does make the very valid point though that the 1.8 is wayyy too little engine for the size of the car. Find a 2.0L FWD non-turbo engine from an Eclipse or a turbo FWD engine. These are possibly some of the easiest cars to work on in stock form. We joked about doing a motor swap in the mountains just for fun when we were swapping engines in an Eclipse two summers ago.

4G61t.org
DSMTrader.com
are a few places to start your search. The first is mostly Mirage and Colt guys, but with a plethora of engines moving around.

OK thanks guys, I appreciate the help. You're right, I need to take a pill. It's been a long day!

And hopefully Mustafa (or someone) can hook up a 4G63 for this little grocery getter!!

[thinking outloud] So the phantom grip just goes inside the stock diff? Their site is a little lacking in the info department....[/thinking outloud]

*searching!*

I didn't say the Phantom grip was a GOOD option. If you open the installation instructions under tech tips youu can dig out some information on the product.

A 4G63 !!!! Horray !!!! He has seen the light.

Welcome to the dark side my friend. I shall hook you up with a 4G63 and all the guts you'll need to make your car run like a raped ape. If you insist on running FWD, no biggy, I do indeed own the part that goes in the drive train to make your car a FWD.

Muhahhahhahhahhhhhaaaaaaaaaaa !!!

Let's do it. Once I pick the car up we can chat!

Is the wiring a pain in the ass Mustafa?

Oh, and Mindy thanks you for the party at RIM. We both had a blast!
