RSF2000 Rally Sport Focus! RWD Revolution

I saw someone mention maybe dumping the exhaust out the side (as in, in front of the rear wheels)... is that allowed in both NASA/RA? I ask because I'd like to do that, because my exhaust and the way it's been installed, actually limits the downward travel of the suspension by a bit.

I briefly scanned through the RA rule book and didn't see anything, but I seem to remember that it's required to exit the rear of the vehicle.

My recollection is that the exhaust is required to exit behind the driver and codriver.

Main thing you have to keep in mind with that is that after the 90 where the pipe goes out the side it will get hammered by rocks and get squished closed unless you armor plate the shit out of it or make some kind of shield.

I wasn't so clear the first time. I hate side pipes for that reason but the gas tank butts the passengers
side and high up in the car high enough you can make a skid and do a 180 side by side muffler and
cat and dump the tip on the side of the car above the sill like literally out the side of the car.

throw some box flares on it and you could have a pretty cool car. of course that would be more $$$ since the coupe is pretty new.

Let's say I could get a body in white of the coupe with all ancellaries except engine and tranny for free in the eastern US. Is there somebody who would commit to building it to RWD specs?

You would have to vin it.

I'm not going to the effort unless somebody commits.

Well, that would be preferable, since I'll want to see it when its done, but I guess I could bird-dog it for anybody who is willing to pay the shipping or come pick it up.

more people that get in on this there will be huge benefits like
group buys of close ratio gears and tons of other parts.

I hate to be the one who says this, but why have a one off, custom rally car? More over, I wouldn't understand why someone would want want the first generation one off custom rally car from a (no offense to you Will) reasonably new to rally builder.

Just from a risk assessment point of view... it doesn't really make sense. I would build it for yourself first, and run it yourself and try to get attention that way.

What did you ever decide to do out back in the way of suspension and diff?

I am doing that! others have more money to spare and some one
could be just interested enough, like the ford 9" irs
Subaru with alloy hubs I'm doing for a customer its way wilder than
that the focus.

you cut most of the back of your car up just to put some
links in. there will be less cutting in the back of a focus
than your car.

its a risk but what if it work as good as the plan? its not soooo far
out, a lot of the us rally crowd are stuck in a box and the fist
thing people say is your new so you don't know what your doing

I have the tools and skills to do this and bring it to a point where
its affordable to the mass of road race, rally just for fun.

what doesn't make sense there is only adding some tubing why
is everyone so afraid I have made frames that are taking crashes
moving all sort of geometry and this is sooooo wild? all the components
are proven motor box diff suspension just the way the mount to the car.

I'm getting frustrated some times.

there are 6 mount in the car for the back and I will cut a 1/4 of the spare tire well
hang the diff like the Subaru one I do. I will make the links about the same but the
front one will be a lot longer but still be shorter than the back too keep the
toe in on bump working. The only hard part will be the knuckle that will accept all
these parts and hold the 33 spline hub that is in the post above. The suspension
will look stock in style 3 lateral and 1 trailing and a coil over shock with a flanged hub

What's wrong with a 5 linked solid axle? Cheap and easy, well proven and works great in rally. 8" Toyota units are cheap and so are gears and diffs. Why make things harder on yourself getting all fancy with a multi-link IRS that doesn't really offer the best geometry and travel for rallying? Plus more failure points. Just sayin', K.I.S.S.
