They only show an exact change. If a sensor is wrong CP doesn't interchange. Lots of Foci 2.0s as well as 2.2 Ecoteks on there.

That's why I wanted to know what he was lookin' for. I can think of a few years of Focus where there were three or four non-interchangable Duratecs.

Finding a RWD one just keeps you from having to buy another engine just for parts.

Car-part doesn't seem to work for Pete....winking smiley

They only show an exact change. If a sensor is wrong CP doesn't interchange. Lots of Foci 2.0s as well as 2.2 Ecoteks on there. Inexpensive cars that sold in huge volumes and are easily totaled. Since the engines are so durable and demand low the price is pretty cheap.

Do you think your kit could be retroed into an older Escort just for the heck of it?

Everytime I look at the possiblity of spending money on the Merkur engine I start thinking about just getting a Duratec, Weber carbs, and just go have fun in Group 2 with it.

See Homer up above drooling about steel cranks?
Well he ain't drooling about steel rods cause he just flat accepted that he must have at least the Mazdog Speed rods in there. And to get comprssion up----so that one can use some fun cams and have some pop left over, he's accepted in a 2,0 that he needs higher comp pistons.

There's a reason I advocate for turbo motors...turbos magically cure the question of torque---and with buckets of torque, we don't need a close ratio gearset, just the good T5.

Like that?

I'm over building and working on cars right now. I just want to go drive.
And I'm at the point where it's all about spending the next few hundred or thousand dollars to tackle the next project.

OK the first ingredient the car!
This car is loaded with options like ........ never mind
What I got for $3000
2005
110000 miles
5 speed
2.0 duratec

I wish I was a better story teller because the whole idea of a focus race car really clicks when you
first experience these funky hatchbacks. First for 3000 I didn't car to drive it i just said thanks ill
take it. and a friend drove it home for me. So when i make it in to my own car I know what makes
the car cool but the first drive it sealed it for me. It fit me ok but the whole feel of no switches now
nav system no bullshit made my mind scream for a roll cage and a dirt road. The drive was good little
soft in the corners but ok dampening but what I love it the car is small with a long wheel base 102.9,
you can really throw the car in to corners and never worry what the back end is doing.

All I have to say is this is the car for me rwd this would be the perfect beginner to professional
race car with a real world price tag

So this is the plan for this little bugger is to do a quick rwd set up, I am just going to use all of a
supra rear end and a miata tranny
so the gears will be
6MT 3.760 2.269 1.645 1.257 1.000 0.843 rear end will be 4.56
so I just entered the the last 5 gears because I can start in second. If I was going to go race
this car I would go one more step to 4.88 and if I had a hot motor that could do 8500 + I
would use 5.13

i'm really excited about what comes about this. even to see what you do with the supra rear end stuff. not that what you were designing wouldn't be awesome, but a rear end assembly from something as even a quick answer would be cool.

I was thinking about it and the explorer is the right way due to the number
and how they will be a better long term part the supra is quick and dirty
and the brakes are huge and it will be an ok set up and might be offered
permanently.

I just want it done so I can show it off, I would also like to do a rent my car
for a week and see how you like the drive feel and all before you buy my kit.
With this car I am determined to keep stock steering rack, stock knuckles,
stock sump, and the tank would be nice but maybe not possible.

Looks like you have launch customer William! Now you just need to clear out some space in your shop and get to work!

so as maybe a dumb question, as most mine are, but how else would we learn.

are you just talking about taking the motor already in there and turning it 90 degrees, or are you talking about swapping a full motor from something else in there.

i'm not to familiar with the ford motors and what's what in what.

but as a side note, if you are using the duratec motor i stumbled upon a place that makes bell housing to mate one to a t5.

smiling smiley yes the stock duratec and ya there bell housing dose not fit with conventional
components they want some bullshit throw out so by the time you done it about
1000 just put a t5 on them. I will make a steel fabricated bell housing or get a casting
made to use stock parts and save from wasting money.

um well then, press on, don't let us slow you down. grinning smiley

but seriously, A+ for thinking out side the box. personally i think there are far to few rwd rally car, or hell street cars for that matter in this world. and oddly the old focuses i thought were cool looking, so excellent choice.

Will the engine fit rotated 90? How much firewall massaging will there be? Or is it straight new firewall panels? Does a focus have an exhaust tunnel in the center you can use for a driveshaft?

There is a bolt in kit for V8, so I would suspect that the engine will fit no problems rotated 90 degrees.

I am excited for this project. I need a new street car....
