Sierra Wheel Size & wider RWD wheels

Is anybody running 16in wheels on their Merkierras? If not, what are the reasons for running 15s? I think the factory sierras ran 16in on gravel.

I was also curious if RWD folks are using wider rims on the rear, or if it's not worth the cost/hassle of simultaneously stocking and toting 2 widths.

Try to get 16' gravel tyres and you will have the answer to your first question.

As far as the second part of your question goes, you can always weld a trailer hitch to the back and drag as many different spares as you want on a stage. Would you carry my spares too if I buy you a beer ??? grinning smiley

Yeah and back in the old 3 door days their tires were a whopping 67cm tall.
Of course they compensated with 4.67 and 4.88 diffs but at some point, I think 1 Jan 93 FIA mandated max 65cm tires for gravel and booom everybody went back to 15".

I have seen some Swedes and Finns use 16" on snow as in 10/65 x 16.

And yah the whole wider on back makes sense except wide for braking makes some sense too.

Why ya asking about Xratty stuff..... thinking about going Right Wheel Drive?

one of the best things about this forum is that you can ask a question, go out for some vietnamese food, and return to find the answer with an extra heaping of information.

re: xratty, i just got back to SF after a few years in NZ/OZ, and if i end up staying, i'm thinking about replacing my old rally gtx with something 2wd and NA.

I've had heaps of fun rallying turbo/awd cars (GTX and Evo2), but i'd really like to find something cheaper, simpler, robust, and fun. at the moment, i don't have a workspace, and the old car, tools, & equipment is still in storage. In the meantime, i'm armchair building an xratty, and considering a starlet or rx7.
