supra diff questions
September 03, 2006 08:41AM
I'm fixing to start my search locally for a rearend for my xr, but don't exactly know what I'm looking for. I know it's from a non-turbo 24v supra and 430 ratio, but don't know the year range or number markings. JV told me and I've already lost the info. One thing is for sure, if I find more than one at a good price, I'll pick extras up for anyone looking.

Thanks,
Dustin

Hey Dustin,
first thing is the range is about 86 thru 92, they're called Mark III or MA70.
Look for the 5 bolt wheels and then the 6 bolt flanges.
There is an ID tag in the drivers side door, and on it is the "axle code". Note it down and we can look up what ratio, but hell if you find one, pull it then pop the back cover off and wiper the edge of the ring gear off, the ratio in a circle stamped in.

But remember it's a Toyota 8" unit and even the ring and pinions out of solid axle pick-ups can be used, so start researching what ratios they had. Some were 4.3 some were 4.56,

I have 6 or 7 difs, but I do not know how many are na 5 speeds ( I am guessing that is what you need, MK111). They are stored about 2 hours from my house, but if you are ineterested I can go get the. I might even have a super low 4.8.

Maybe pop off the rear covers and look for the stamped in marks on the rim of the ring gear. Realistically thje 4.3 is as low as most guys would really want with a T5 with 2.95 first or first becomes toooooooo short.
The real Sierras were running 4.67 and 4.88 but they were also running a 2.3 first gear AND revving to 8000 rpm.

That 4.8 might be real nice for a larger Normal Aspirated motor though.

Look at the photos and maybe shot a piccie of what you've got.

And welcome to ralllyanarchy, even if you drove a Toilletta!!!!
