Tranny swap info?
September 06, 2006 09:46PM
Been searching the web for T-5 swap info and can't find any definitive info.

Anyone have any links? I don't want to bug folks about info that might be out there already that maybe I can't find.

Cheers! John

Look under tran/diff. Much of the info is probably N/A; I've done several using a slightly different route.

There's like 15 different methods being used. I've got a bunch of JVAB crossmembers to weld together though for the sweet crossmember.
Basically, get the T5 to 2.3 bell housing.
For rally use, you want the non-world class T5, which has less hp rating, but 2.95 1st gear instead of 3.36 or something like that.
Then the JVAB crossmember.
I think there is probably something for the clutch cable. Decide on hydraulic or to stick with the cable clutch.
Driveshaft. I think most guys use some one piece Mustang piece.
Clutch and pressure plate for the correct spline that will fit the flywheel.
Correct speedo cable for the T5.

OPMD sells some of the stuff. You can find bits on turboford or on the various Merkur forums. There's about 17.3 different ways the swap has been done, though I don't know which is correct. I'm kind of waiting for the Supra diff swap and hoping John will specify a propshaft to use to go to the adapter flange at the correct length. Oh, and there are two different width tunnels too. I think it's earlier years are often narrow. What year is yours?

Grant, that's what's driving me a bit nutty. Seems to be more than one way to skin the cat, and no real concensus. Looks like I'll be gathering nuts. ;-)

John been soooooper busy, just look for the right box, remember Camaro boxes all have the 2.95 first AND the fit the hole in the floor!!!

I'll guide you the the mine field.
If you get the right Ford box, the normal Xratty auto trans speedo cable is the right one.
Get the output yoke for wahtever you get.
