actually its Flying Miata, a aftermarket company!

But yea that diagram is about what were talking about. I would suggest a separate Rx7 thread just so we can work out all the details!

When thinking of the cage, think at an early stage that you will almost certainly want to add towers or turrets in the back so you can have nice long coilovers---and the back-stays and diagonals converging to the tops of the towers..

Do you know what I mean?

If you want to put the shocks/springs right on top of the axle, you're going to have to cut through the lateral member in the "trunk" floor - it's what the stock springs attach to.

If you're willing to stick the shocks behind the axle, you can just open up the existing shock towers large enough to fit springs inside.

I did one car where we put boxes in there for coilovers, and it could have worked very well, but due to various reasons it ended up sucking bad.

Really, though, working as-is you can use 5" circle track springs in the back and the rear shocks are pretty simple. IMO.

i think i know what i want to do for a rear axle. The toyota 8" for 80-95 2wd pickups is 56" wide (compared to mazdas 54"winking smiley which is tolerable. BUT the axle pattern for 2wd is 5x114.3. So that means i can make my front lug pattern of 5x114.3! Wonderful news id say!

I dont think i will bother with narrowing it by 2"

I just need to figure out what rotor and caliper i plan on using and have a bracket made up.

a) is that the same toyota axle that JVL pitches for the volvos etc?
b) are you planning to try and do this before idaho?

Yeah, same one.... seems that is becoming the default choice. Makes sense.
Now to get the 240 Volvo to be the default choice of car.

Its the Next Big Thing that will save US Rally---by having a field full of strong and simple cars with limitless potential--affordably.

i have never driven a volvo honestly. Back in ohio they dont exist anymore, not even at the junkyards. If you do see one, its pure rot.

Oh come on Alex, I see Volvos all the time!

Why, amongst my regular customers are a S60T, an S80 (transverse inline six!), not one but two S40s, and a VC70!

And my Mom has a V70.

That VC70 is nice. But it looks like I can get an Allroad 2.7t for less, and the Allroad can be had with a manual transmission... Audis are evil but they're the devil I know, you know?

i believe i have decided on the Megasquirt III. There are a few features over the MSII that would just be nice, like onboard data logging (already have a 32GB SD card) and a USB port (FINALLY). That and has anti-lag settings.

I have a shit-ton of antisquat, because my concern at the rear is that the rear tires bite when I hit the accelerator, care about nothing else. This isn't a 3 link problem, this is a Pete problem.

.... well, I finally mapped it out, and it's not as shit-ton as I previously thought.

Depending on ride height, and after making some assumptions about the car's CG height, it's looking at right around 50-60%. (The IC/tire slope meets the front axle centerline about 13" above ground)

I would not own an Audi allroad period. What an overly complex pile of crap that car is.

Have you ever changed a turbo? I have. 26 hours. Screw that.

How can it take that long to change the turbo? All you have to do is drop the drivetrain out the bottom and then it's right there. Probably 12 hours max.
