Gotta drop the subframe to get the pan off and dissasemble most of the front end. 80 % of my tools are at the new house.... I'm gonna put another coat of finish on the floors then overfill the motor to get the pump primed.

No time john. If overfilling it works, saves me a ton of time

Have you cranked it much? I usually pull the fuel pump fuse/relay, pull the spark plugs out, hold it wide open, and crank until you get oil pressure. It's amazing how long you can crank an engine over with no compression. If you can pull your pressure sender easily, you can crank until oil comes out. Maybe you do have a bad sender...?

There are some motorcycles that are notoriously bad at moving oil. We just started a race bike that took over a minute to return oil to the tank at just above idle. I don't like that crap.

Heh. I just bought a '95 90 Quattro. I keep having "oil light" problems, but the pressure seems fine (~4.2bar over 2k rpm)...

Over filling the oil level doesn't work. Did you pre fill the oil filter? Sometimes a wet filter will prevent the air in the pump from purging out. Mr. Culbertson's advice is good.

Robert, I put 15 quarts of oil in it and crank it for about a minute and finally got the oil out of the turbo drain line I really do think over filling it helped. I think I put in enough oil to submerge the pump.

The idiot light in the 1995 Audi 90 Quattro I believe is attached to two different switches one of the low pressure switch for under 2000 rpms and the other is a different sort pressure switch. do a search on it usually it is a faulty sender

Well at least you'll have lawn mower oil for the rest of eternity.
On my Volvo i filled the turbo with oil to prime it, the turned the engine over for a bit. The oil pressure light never went off. I started it, and in about 10 seconds there was pressure. I cracked the feed line to reconfirm that oil was actually getting to the turbo.

Well I'm stoked you got it running and have pressure !

Thanks, I will look it up (I have the Bentley, but have not yet gone through it). What you say confirms what I have been seeing: over ~2000rpm is when I get the light (randomly - might go several days without seeing it). Drop-below that rpm, light goes out.

Motor makes no noise (due to low pressure), gauge shows pressure is fine, pressure moves up and down with rpm, seems quite sufficient, oil temp never gets above ~80C.

I was actually in the process of changing the sensor, as I had essentially ruled out a bad pump/worn bearings. Just haven't had the time to mess with it.

Car is in really good shape, runs really well, drives great - just suffered from neglectful owner (a couple of owners ago - guy I bought it from I know, and he put a lot of work into the car).

I dint start it like that just cranked it over with the pump submerged to get it to prime.
