grant, I had to go look at the rules, thank you for pointing that out. Somehow or another I don't remember ever seeing those dimensions. That really helps, but can I put a bend in it?

Yeah, though I'd suggest following the a-pillar support recommendations (8.3.2.1.4). Keep it around 20 degrees and keep it straight from the side view. I usually just try to get it as far away from helmet and close to contour of body shell. On the 4 door, I made it so that the maximum linear inches of the bar is right against the b-pills to allow it to be stitched to it. The bend is just into the rear door opening and the bar meets the main hoop just at the top of the lower bend in hoop, or basically where yours is in that pic.

I'm going to suggest following Grant's thoughts. I don't care for that bar the way it is. Keep it straight from the side, make it a bit smaller. Remember that a HANS may hang up on it as it is AND someday an E_Crew guy may need to get in there to help someone.

Lets hope not!

I think I can make that happen, thanks for the help guys.

Depends on casey's schedule. I'm pretty much ready for welds. If i'm not out there on sat, I'll probably be out buying paint and supplies.

So the A pillar support bar isn't shown...remember you can bring it down the front leg from the header bar 4" to give additional steering wheel clearance. Also you can put a 20* bend in the bar to bow in out away from the steering wheel. Bar must appear straight from the side tho. Bend has to be east to west, not north to south so to speak.

Like so?

Took this pic, just cause it was cool to see a seat in there

I actually finished up just about everything as far as cage bars, but my phone died so I didn't get pics with the A pillar supports or my cardboard dash mockup in place. Final welding Starts on FRIDAY!

Tonight I coerced Casey to come over to weld more of the cage together. Here are a couple crappy cell phone shots of that

One more good welding party scheduled for friday and I can start prepping the interior for paint. open to suggestions, as I'm just not creative when it comes to colorschemes. If no one has a good answer the car may just end up being painted white. Although since mr Norkus mentioned it red is growing on me.

red is expensive but more showy. White hides body work errors and is much cheaper and easier to touch up and match later on.

PLus, it is so much nicer working in/on a brightly lit car at night. A white interior will light up like daytime with one work light shining on the roof or floor.

And any oil, water, leaks of any kind show up easier on white cars and thus are easier to trace/diagnose.

The white impreza with the red cage at the Idaho Rally looked sharp. I would consider that for sure. I like red a lot though. You could always do white inside and in the engine bay then red outside.
