You assume street tires and open diff. Well, I suppose that weird preload thing that VW did still counts as "open"...

How different does a good diff drive compared to a welded diff?
The welded one I drove felt like it had "built in" power steering. Load the outside tire and accelerate and it would turn in for you. OTOH that was a fairly narrow car.

Yeah there was your first mistake.
We went thru this on SScom some few years ago.

Same difference of "opinion" and ir seems that guys couldn't be troubled to push themselves away from the keyboard and waddle out to their cars and count turns.

All I knew is waht I actually assembled and installed.

Do much for the weight of reality.

I said I wasnt going by internet info.
I had measured both manual rack and power racks all by myself, though it was about 5 years ago, so apparently I forgot the exact numbers.

But in any case what I was getting at is that I dont think the quaife rack would be worth it over a quickiner. And next time maybe I'll double check my maths.

I finally got around to throwing the modified column in the car and gave it a couple turns - The quickener works VERY well. I used the 2:1 version so I came out to about ~1.7 turns- so in the real world by mkIII had around 3.3 turns

I may want to use a thicker plate to hold the quickener, there's a lot of force going on there and it does deflect ever so slightly when being used (of course this is with no power assistance and a stationary car)

Today the VR6 might fit in Gp2 with the new weight adjusted rules but in the old days it would have been in Gp5 with. But who cares the Vr6 is nice motor for the road sometimes but not for a rally car.

www.11tenths.com has a lot of info on my old Gp2 Golf. I sold it early this year after rolling it and running out of time to work on cars.

Mk2 or Mk3 both are fine, not much diff between them really.

Get a plate limited slip Kazz, Gripper or Bildon that likely sells one of those or some other like dif.

Susspinsion would be the very first thing I changed on the car and I would get good shit, not half good shit. Today I would get John V's stuff if I was interested in good shit for not so much money and I would get Proflex if I was interested in speending more of that cash wasting away in my savings account. I ran on DMS my self but they raised the price to the point you might as well get Proflex.

It was a fun car, it took some work to make it last when I started driving it really fast (I never won a stage overall, but did get second a lot, who needs 4wd and turbos?)

I did the power steering with 1.5 quickener and that was good, I would have liked less effort still but it worked even on the 19 mile stages I was still able to push for the whole stage. With the quaife rack I would get tired after about 12 miles, to tired to steer.

For motivation look at the video on 11tenths.
