Subaru cage piccies...
November 16, 2011 05:06PM
I'll start this to add some pics as we're building the cage in Tyler's (FunctionAuto) Subaru.
Main hoop and front half laterals are done. I was quite happy with the tight fit. In Boston for work so more pics might be a while...

Some fresh pics from earlier tonight.
Got a lot more done then shown but waiting for Mark to send them to me.
The last two aren't cage or Tyler's car, just some general pics of the bathroom of the shop.
See how cool my shop glasses are?

Looking good. You guys are planning on putting these together as kits eventually? 4 doors as well?

Speaking of 4 doors: has there been any talk of putting the a pillar bars in front of or replacing the stock dash brace? I know it makes it kind of a bitch to weld at the feet but with the shorter doors there isn't a whole lot of room up there.

Mark's car is like that. A-pillar half laterals are further forward and dash bar welded across. Stock heater cores are not an option with that. Much easier to just keep stock dash bar in there.

I always keep the stock dash bar and run the half laterals forward of it. It takes a little trimming of the dash bar but at least you can remove it afterwards.

Wow. My phone really messed that picture up...

What's the thought on the a-pillar reinforcement connection to the upper door bar. I've mostly seen either going inside of the door bar and just barely touching it and having them directly intersect. Since I can do offset cuts I was thinking of notching the a-pillar bar so that it halfway intersects. Thoughts?

Notch the door bar, not the a-pillar bar, just to be legal beagle.

Another pic Grant sent me.

I'm trying to not get too excited as there is still a long way to go after the cage is finished.

I think either would be legal.
I'd rather keep the door bars in-tact myself.

I think it needs a gusset either way?

It may change the way the gusset is placed? depending on what bar is notched.
