But they are so comfy, so much room. winking smiley

I bought back the mighty max after Jason ran it at mt hood, also to add to the Matt random rally cars i bought and just recently sold Simons old awd supercharged civic.

I'd suggest starting with a cheap and mostly reliable road car and one decent car for rallying.

Aww heck no! I'm dreaming (which I'm rather proficient at, btw) and have been for awhile. I might as well dream big! grinning smiley

So Sean it seems like an epic build thread like this should have some closure after the cars first event. You told us you were still shaking off some cobwebs but how did the car do. What worked, what didn't, favorite comments, things you forgot to torque. Is she all done or do you still have a few things up your sleeve?

reading through this thread, i came to wonder. How in the hell do you manage to get a good double flare!!! I positively can not make good flares on my brakes lines.

If you're using the lines that came from your car they actually are metric. I tried to use a standard flare kit on them and could never could get one to work. I rented the metric flare kit from autozone and made a perfect one on my first flare.

oh well if its from there, then they should use the standard ones.

is the part that slides into the inside of the tube sloppy or feels like it fits nice?

the problem i kept on having before i figured out i had the wrong set was the "nipple" that went into the tube was loose and so when i went to put pressure on it, it would not press down straight. so i would get these crooked flares that were useless. it really is key to find the "nipple" that fits into the tube just right, then as you are pressing it, the nipple guides you to the perfect flare. then after that, it's practice practice practice.

Be aware, fuzzy memory here but, there are also different flare profiles. The Volvo uses what is called a bubble flair. Required a different "nipple", but perfect each time once we got it figured out. I am pretty sure that is different than just standard to metric. Kind of like the cone and bell profiles for lug nuts.

I clamp the tube in the holder after cutting and use a nice file to make the end of the tube clean and square. I like to remove any evidence of the cut from the cutting tool. Then I hit the ID with a dril bit that I put in a file handle to de-bur and chamfer. I like to put a dab of grease on the die when using, that makes the flare come out much nicer.
