MRW rebuild
January 07, 2007 01:57PM
Hmmm.. trying to attach some pictures, can't seem to get it right.

Anyway, I finally got into teh bodyshop to get teh shell jerked back into something that resembles teh right shape!
We had to make a few cuts in teh front upper frame rail strengthening as it was too much for teh light weight 10 ton puller. We could have set up the big boy but didn't want to waste teh time, or pull the thing apart!

The back pulled out easily, but it was "only" stitch welded... that all needs cutting out and replacing anyway.

Back at my shop... rear section cut out. If you've never taken a car apart lik ethis you should try it sometime :-) let's hope I can get it back together.

See the doner rear 1/4? took me 2 hours to cut out the ferking window... someady i'll get teh right tool for that! Now all I have to do is drill out about 100 spot welds and i can start fitting it back together!

tentativel booked in at teh paint shop in 2 weeks. I'll have the body done in time for Perce-Neige, not sure if I'll have any suspension or not...

-Martin.

I hope the shop time isn't costing an arm an a leg.. Looks like you should have it back together in no time though.

Cost me $200 to get it pulled. Probably another $100 to get the paint put on I'll supply the matyerials). The rest is being done in my shop by me, that just costs me family time :-(
I spent a few hours the last couple of night drilling sopt welds and seperating skins, got most of it apart now, next is to fit it all up and start welding it back together!

I love how you guys just calmly and coolly deconstruct the accident at the end while the spectators and workers seem in a panicked scramble on their way to you -- very surreal.

Cheers, Ted

"Calmly and coolly"... yeah right! I was in shock after wrecking my just barely finished car! Oddly enough though it wasn't a rough wreck from inside the car, (the spectators said they all thought we were dead!), all the money spent on safety equipment was well spent!

Much progress.

MRW Shop converted to a paint booth :-)
On Saturday evening I threw some paint on... it's full of dust, has runs, dry spots etc. But it's all one colour again!

We left the dent in the door on purpose... too much hassle to take it out and the door stickers will cover it up.

The at event workhorse :!:

Now it's all back together! Need some stickers now to break up all that white...

Many thanks to the crew (Ken, Sergio, Freak) who all came over yesterday and took abuse from me all afternoon. I took it for a quick test drive at 10:30 last night (Sun), and drove it to work today
