That's no reason to not chop the fuckin things out and weld in something along the sides. LOOK AT STRESSED constructions like any motorcycle steering head in the last FORTY FUCKING YEARS. They did the "On center thing" in the mid 50s. Steering heads BROKE OFF in quick time. Frames made with thinner but on both sides, what care guys call TACO style are vastlty LIGHTER and last for YEARS doing FAR CRAZIER shit. Hokay, I did this, and it pinched me at a point. Then I bent a "U" out of some galvanized 20ga sheet, and it pinched to a slightly bigger point as well (hurt more too). Waiting to cause damage? Think how hard a hit I'd have to take to crush the main hoop downward enough to stress the reinforcing X enough to push a 1/8" edge through a 0.095 or whatever it is tube. Lighter? The plate doesn't even weigh 10 lbs. I hope to avoid making my main hoop reinforcements a stressed construction for as long as possible, but at least they're there. |
