Re: 4.47 VW ring and pinions PACKED and READY
June 15, 2007 10:42AM
OK all you Krautskies who love your Krautski cars, spoke with The Legendary Fly Korp Kommandant Hr.Seidel so I have all packed up four---or is it 5 (I was tired having worked all day on an annoying and distracting problem)

I was sending separately
1-"Bad Chad" Eixenberger to Grafton, WI
2-"Demon Don" here in Sleeezattle gets one

So
3-"Gnarly Charlie" Seidel
4-"Wrecksinger" Gretzinger
5-"Voll Gass" Koll
6-?????????????

Sorry but what's the last one owner???

Final price I set at $450 and the frieght was $52, not exactly what I was hoping as the guy dinked with the price but still $300-350-400 cheaper than "the other brands".

You other guys get together with The Fly Legion and give him some dough, he said he'd be sending a check to cover all youse guys.

Chad, your's is packed get hold of me.

Don I'll give you a ring so you can get this.

Number 6 goes to me as well for personal delivery with a smile to John Hruska.

So 3, 5, and 6 go to da U.P.
4 and 1 go seperately to cheese land.
And number 2 can stay in that rainy place.

I sent you a private message with a picture, too.

What's 67 divided by 15?
June 20, 2007 05:44PM
4.46!

Got it. Now to figure out how to get it installed.

Comparing with the 4.81 pinion I have laying around, it appears that it will require an 8v 4th.

Does anybody know what I will need to make this thing work in my 16V trans? Do I just need the 8V driven 4th gear?

I could put it in my 8V trans, but that has a .76 5th, which even with the 4.46 is going to SUCK.

review of the 4.25
September 14, 2007 04:03PM
Has anyone tried the 4.25 with the 16V tranny and motor? I've yet to hear if anyone has installed one yet and if there is an issue with the 16V.

Havnt had a chance to put it in yet. But I'm going to start here soon so that I can have it together for LSPR. I just have to fix my two other cars that broke down first.

Gretzinger sounds like a real douche now. He sold a head and some throttle bodies 3 months ago to guys on the vwvortex and hasnt sent them yet, even though they've paid and he said he's sent them a couple of times. So yeah, pretty lame. Too bad my friend isnt still working in madison or I'd have him go over there and "help" him pay up.

But I got the broken headbolt out of my scirocco this morning, moved my quantum "service rig" out of the garage, and put the rally car on the charger so I can pull it in and take the transmission out this evening.

John - I might be interested, but I'd like to wait until Carl reports back with his fourth-gear findings. I run only 16v gearboxes.

In other news, would any of you MkII Golf pervs like a set of scans from the 1987 printing of the Bentley manual that gives the teardown/rebuild instructions for an 020? It's the section they took out of the later versions of the manual and replaced with the sentence "...the transaxle can be taken to an Authorized Volkswagen dealer or other qualified shop for repairs."

Got it mostly apart tonight. I need a 9" 2 jaw puller to get the last gears off of the pinion shaft though, then I can take the pinion shaft and the differential out.

Its definately NOT the 16v 4th gear you use. I havnt pulled apart my 8v box yet to fit that one, but the 16v 4th gear is way too large on the ID for the splines.

The other thing you can see that is different is that the new pinion shaft isnt as long as the one in my transmission. The extra length of the one thats in there rides on the needle bearings in the end of the case (2nd pic.) So I dont know if it will work or not.

New 4.46 pinion shaft is on the left, 16v 3.67 pinion shaft is on the right. 4th goes on the second set of splines down.
