Underbody Protection From Floorpan to LCA
July 27, 2013 05:46PM
My idea was to use trucker mud flaps, the rubber enveloped fabric things, but a trip to the auto parts store and two trips to two different truck stops and no luck.

What have other people been using? What I want to do is have flexible protection from the current underbody plastic to the rear lower control arm to keep the arm from abrading away and to protect the CV joints.

I use a 1/8" LDPE (low density polyethylene) You should be able to get a 4X8 sheet for about 60 bucks. I got mine from a place called Laird plastics. Not sure about your area though. I have it cut to fit and covering everything except where my skip plate covers. its tough shit.

Being in Canada we lucked into a Hockey rink being refurbished and picked up enough board LDPE board material to do 25 rally cars stem to stern for free. Appropriately scuffed up by decades of hockey pucks, of course! Properly Canuckian! grinning smiley

That's Awesome - there's protection wrapped-around the shock and reservoir, and even rock-protection on the Jack!

most circle track shops will sell sheets of hdpe, or ldpe. use 2 or 3 FAT zip-ties, but leave them somewhat loose, or they will just snap under suspension travel

you can also large diameter shink tube over your suspension arms , similar to: http://www.subaruwrcspares.com/5.html scroll down to lateral links...

I be sorry as a muthafucka I did, still sorry I did n' hustled ta peep what tha fuck I holla'd a lil' bit better, or at least try to.

Well, before I post I should rummage around in the garage to see what's out there. What was out there was 4 old polyurethane mud flaps I had on the car before I had bigger flaps fitted.

I think between the 4 I have enough material to cobble something together.

But all was not in vain because those pics of Higgins car gives me an idea how to mount to the LCAs, I think I'll bend up some aluminum into a U channel and steal their idea mounting method.

And I like how they protected the threads on the suspension with thin closed cell packing foam. I need to go upstairs to the shipping department and see if we have anything like that laying around.
