Sorry to see it smashed up - glad everyone was ok!

We had nearly a similar crash on the first stage on Saturday. Bunch of 3s that opened up into 4s and then dropped down onto some lower terrain that was muddy (down by a river maybe?). Back end stepped out towards a tree and I saw a "tap/quick spin/center punch the next tree" flash before my eyes. Hammered down on the gas and nothing happened, but when we got out and looked at the right rear, the bumper molding was missing, the tail light had a few cracks and there was a tiny dent in the lower part of the sheet metal just above the bumper.

All this makes me want to get the Compact up and running and rally legal...it's 9" shorter in the back. drinking smiley

Only injury is some anti-sub belt mashing of the 'goods' eye popping smiley - I was thinking of a vasectomy anyway, so - DEAL!
If this is the case, your lap belts were likely not tight enough or were improperly fitted.

Yep- I suspect you are absolutely correct. I learned a valuable lesson there. The tops, I pull seriously tight, but it's always harder to do the bottom. Something to think of on VERSION TWO!

I bet the cage is 100% OK. this may actually be a GREAT way to take an XR4 with rotten rockers and put it to proper use. I'd like to see more pictures, but the front may very well be just a rad support and bumper and fender skin. Anything front of the front and rear suspension pickup points doesn't have to be perfect, just "good enough".

Again, interested in seeing more pictures so I can give terrible advice. grinning smiley

Don't worry, its only metal. Cut off the ugly and weld fresh car on there. Easy peasy. Chicks dig scars.

Well then let us be a lesson for everyone else out there: make sure your lap belts are properly tightened/secured. Not sure exactly what we did wrong yet, but both of our anti-sub belts nearly made this not a concern for us in the future.

Definitely getting a 3rd party evaluation of how I have my belts fixed before the next one.
