i picked up a set of hood pins like that at auto zone for about the same money

I did too on clearance at Auto Zoo, the bolts were aluminum foil compressed by powerful Chinese girls hands into shape of bolt.

Oh well.

Who knows? I've got the aluminumumum bolt hood pins and they are about the only unbroke part on the front of the car. The plate/pin pulled through the fiberglass hood, bolts still attached to the rad support smiling smiley

The Aero-catch are a POS, I've used them before and what a joke. The mechanism breaks all the time, it tends to get stuck with the lightest amount of dust, and if the pins dont line up perfectly like a small hit theres no way you'll open close the hood. Did I say that shit breaks easy and gets stuck?

I've heard the aero-catch ones jam, but have no experience with them. Apparently they're fine if you lube them regularly with one of those dry carbon-based spray lubes. Dunno.

I use ones like the ones originally posted, made out of steel. I think I got them from Summit. I'm sure their high profile is killing my stage times, but it's nice to be able to open the hood when I need to.

Yeah.. I'm a sucker for the way the aero catch ones look, but the thought of running them in a dirt env doesn't sound good.

Ordered a set of the sparco ones. For such a silly little part they are damn hard to find a known good 'cheap' one. So much 'rice' in the category of stuff.

Mostly hunting for this now as I'l like to get the holes drilled with the hood still in its 'factory' position before I pull it and the windshield.

And for my last dumb question in this thread. Is it worth plating where these things mount to the rad support?

Blue suba rat if it helps any (explains the dumb questions doesn't it smiling smiley )...

I concur, we needed flush mount pins to pass rego, fitted a set of these.
They survived the rego inspection but not too much longer after that.

Why do they have to be flush mount for rego? Or is that just one of those strange and mysterious rules that Just Are?

RE: pins,

It's just the way it is, in my state we are lucky enough to be able to rego some pretty full-on rallycars. there a a few hoops to jump but they are pretty reasonable.

They are worried about pedestrian V car accidents. It's BS when you can have any bullbar/lights/spare wheel/entrenching tools etc on the bonnet of your fourby. A couple of pins on a vehicle that sees such limited use aren't going to do much but so what I'll save my fights for when they matter.

JVL Wombats..... fark that! Those little monsters are like boulders with legs, they may even give your sooper bitchin struts a bit of a touch up on a good day!spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
