How do you get all the grease out of the strut bodies? Is there some magic chemical that turns it all into fairy dust that just blows away? Or:

I use Bio degreaser cut about 5:1 in a bucket of hot water, toilet brush and go nuts. Use a shop towel on the end of a paint stir stick first to get the bulk out first. Use the same stir stick to apply fresh grease. Done.

You know what's awesome for swabbing out any kind of tube at all? An old welding rod bent into a S on the end with a rag threaded into it. Then chuck it into a drill.

You know, I thought toilet brush at one point... Forgot about it, though. Rags on a stick seemed like it would take a lot of rags. Looks like someone regreased these things by filling them to the top with grease then jamming the insert in.

Kerosene and diesel are relatively cheap degreasers. Diesel smells worse but is a third the price. If you can buy a few gallons of JP-8 jet fuel cheap, that's a good option too. It's basically fancy kerosene. Kleen Strip makes a nice no-smelly kerosene ($12/ gal)

Forget bio cleaners unless they're warm/hot or 100% citrus based.

Throw on some gloves and embrace the petroleum while you still can!

Jeez, how much is kerosene where you live? It's on par with diesel here ('bout $4/gal with tax) but smells a lot better. Less "oily" too.

I usually take my greasy 'small' stuff to the self serve car wash. Switch over to the engine degreaser or the soap setting and let the pressurized hot water back blow shit all over you. It works well, but sure is messy.
