Rally to the rescue
December 12, 2013 07:22AM
New here and need advice please.
63' Mk1 Spit (stock suspension)

I need about a 2" suspension lift. I can get taller tires but that only gets me 1/2".
Its an IRS. Will bigger springs and good shocks do the trick or will I need custom mods?
Thanks for all suggestions.

Ok I suggest a full name, full real location, full sentances, a lttle chit chat who you are, what you do what you want to do with the car, what car...

You know? More of a conversation rather than a throw away tweet...

That's what I suggest..

My apologies.
1963 spitfire bought eight years ago in Florida. I moved to the woods in Arkansas five years agoand have not been able to get it out of the yard except to trailer due to the rocks and streams I have to traverse. I would love to make the car more 'rally' like in its appearance anyway, so being lifted won't wont destroy the value to me. I just need a plan to get 2 more inches clearance.
I believe I can overcome the rear camber issue.
I appreciate any suggestions.

Rich--

We are a bunch of foul-mouthed, mouth-breathing knuckleheads around here, and we bicker a lot, but the one thing we do is put a real name and location in our username/avatar area so we know WHO we're bickering with. There are a couple who ignore this rule and get away with it because everybody knows who they are, but by and large we want to know who you are and where you are so we know where to send the bail money.

Funny thing is, somebody on the 24 Hours of Lemons forums was asking a rear suspension question about a Spitfire the other day, so you may want to look over there and see if a solution was found, although I think that guy was trying to drop the car more to get some rear camber. Those things are just LOW.

Rich -

Be sure to google yourself before posting your full information. We will.

If your car has that awful swing-axle rear, you're probably going to have to move it all down.

Naw, if we were doing that, the site would crash constantly from Tea Party DDOS attacks. smiling smiley

Sounds like a rebuilt rear leaf (those things are transverse rear leaf, correct?) would get the ass end up in the air.

Actually, one of the few groups less competent with technology than that setting up ObamaCare is the Tea Party.

Remember this?

And then there was the ease by which Anonymous counter-hacked Rove's attempt to snag Ohio. But we're not supposed to talk about that.

I'm glad you chose to show Mrs Michele Bachman, a lover of our great land, instead of the mooshell that thinks the U S Treasury is her families' vacation fund and has only been proud of America when we elected her inept life partner, the great orgainizer.

It's good that Michele Bachman loves our country, because she sure as heck isn't getting any from her ego-dystonic husband.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.
