We're using the RaceQuip camlock 6-point. Very happy with them.

Driving Impressions.

I had the 5 point version of these, and will be getting these next, for less clotch stlangulation. No complaints.

Not that they're cheap, but due to my fat legs, I really like the Schroth Hybrid belts. Seems the more you spend, the smaller the cam lock and metal bars are. The ones I mentioned don't have metal bar that pokes me in the legs for the crotch strap, as they've got cloth loops that attach to the waist straps. Certainly take a few seconds longer to get into, but just as fast as regular belts to get out of.

Dave,

Have those belts passed a RA scrutineer? I thought their rules said all the connections on the belt have to be metal to metal.

In this case the webbing is looped over a metal attachment point. Not unlike it would be if each leg stap went around it's own buckle. It's just using the waist buckle instead.

I was just asking because in the RA rules it says

Quote

K. Material
The material and hardware of restraints shall be in new or serviceable
condition. The buckle shall be of the metal-to-metal quick release type.

and I always assumed that to be all buckles had to be that way. I haven't seen anybody use the kind Dave described in an event.

Have the 6 points - good belt - excellent value.

Just to state the obvious...

FIA rated belts last 5 years, SFI only for 2.

Unless you're racing Pikes Peak...where industry standards are for someone else.

In regards to the question about my belts at a RA event - can't say, as my Evo was only ever a zero car at Rally Colorado in 2009.

I was under the assumption that if it has a valid FIA or SFI tag, you were good to go.

I've used a lot of different belts over the years, and my favorites are RaceTech, which I think were made by Schroth.

Close second, is actually the G-Force Pro belts. Great belt, really reasonable price.

Sparco, Simpson, RJS, Impact, et all have been inferior in some way or at best equal, and often are a lot more money.

I really like having the cam lock on the lower, submarine belts, not the lap belts, makes it easier to find and get buckled in quickly. Gone are the days of losing the submarine belt under the seat (Which used to happen a lot on the 5 point ones).

FYI, I found out recently that you can get the SFI type belts re-webbed for a pretty fair price. Some belts can only reweb once, some it sounds like you can reweb for years and years. So even though it happens every two years, you pay $50-100 to get new webbing and such, and it's good again.

I'm on the hunt for some good 6-point belts. I personally hate the 5-points since the strap manages to straddle your balls quite nicely. While the 6-points sit on your thigh.

I've always been a sabelt fan. I'm going to start doing a small amount of local only retail and only going to carry Sabelt. Sadly wasn't able to afford the lightweight set for display on current order. Looks like the extra 50 over the regular 225 set is lighter adjusters and more importantly smaller hardware at cam. I've really liked any belt with cam on sub belts like Kris says. The Gforce fia are a decent budget set, though I find them horribly uncomfortable, but at price point you aren't buying comfort.

None of these are cheap options, but...

The expired Scroth belts I've got for rallycross are pretty sweet. If they were SFI and re-web-able, I'd pretty set on getting some for the new car.
(Yeah, I know the cost is spread over 5 years - but for an over-achiever doing a whopping 1 event a year for 5 years, that's $200/event in belts alone, for 2 pairs of $500 belts)
Money-no-object I'd be looking at the Enduro belts, but if I get some at this point they'll have to be one of the lower models.

On the SFI side, Safecraft makes some nice looking belts, but their website blows - definitely gonna have to pick up the phone for them.

The pertinent details:
http://www.safecraft.com/Mrestraints-harnesses.php
http://www.safecraft.com/info_docs/Custom%20Build%20Specifications%20for%20Safecraft%20Restraints(1).pdf <- I think they're all pretty much custom - if you want a feature, it seems like they can do it.

Some nicer pics:

Depending on their rewebbing policies and costs, I'll probably be getting belts from safecraft.
