I may be wrong, but I heard that T5's dont like to shift that well at high rpm's.

Maybe get together for a beer sometime Drew, as a native brit i would love to see your cortina. We will be out rallycrossing at Monroe speedway Sunday. I will be in a red 242 Volvo.

No logical or any other reason that I could find after approaching the question from every angle.

Hideous, agricultural, pointless, gross. Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiddde and heavy..
Did you mention heavy? I can't remember that's why I mentioned heavy...
Because its heavy...

And complicated.. and how shall we say it politely:
Pointless hacking of the car for no reason except personal desire to carve on a car..for the sake of hacking on a car.

Maybe Drew should ask his buddy how many old light classic-ish cars has he installed the wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide heavy fross heavy Thunderchicken whole rear end in?

Modifications should have reasons...not speculative pipe dream type reasons but cost/benefit/do-able type reasons.

"Because I can" is no reason to do something on a car.

After talking with Garth. I've decided to go down the road john v had pointed to months ago.
Seems most people on this site agree. I don't want to hack into my car at all if I can help it.

Think of it; Nascar types go 200 mph with well done but simple 4 link + panhard.

And you can do thinks like changing roll center in 5 minutes vesus --you can't.

Gonna be smrat and do 15" wheels? So you can fit some brakes????
205/50 x 15 was enough tire for a Sierra Cosworth which did 150 mph and weighed just a tad more than a Cortina---a tad being nearly 600-700 lbs.

If 205/50 x 15 was good enough for them, ought to be good enough for a Cortina...

Going to retain those tiny tiny spaghetti like front spindles with the bearings the size of a dime and a quarter? Life insurance in order???

150 mph is serious business...
For example, the Xratty bearings are twice the size of Cortina ones, huge... I wouldn't trust them past 130 mph..for long... I've SEEN the failures..buy you undies in convenient 12 packs.

natch?

A throw back pronunciation to my childhood role models" Moe and Curley Howard and Larry Fine.

When asked about something easy they'd say "Natch' for 'naturally' which few say natur-ally, we say Natcherly..
So naturally links and weld on ears and associated stuff is easy.

The big question is which axle to use? Everything stock is for a light and meager output car.

150mph goal means things better work good at 150..
Something BIGGER that sees less weight and less powerz is ideal

You have a wonderful resource in Fords "Escort Rally Preparation" book..

Build the car kinda like that and you'll have a safe and fun car and you'll know that going in.
You do want to actually have a car at some point, dontcha? (don't you?)

Basically its going to be, if its going to be a safe car, only the bodyshell remaining Cortina...
EVERYTHING else needs uprating seriously..Engine, clutch, flywheel, gearbox, dricve shafty, axle, hubs spindles, brakes, and suspension..

You don't want to discover that something is crap and wake up dead.
I hear it ruins your whole day.

Garth bought a rear axle link kit for a MkII escort from somewhere in england for his Starlet, if I recall it was around 300 pounds for the links, and boxes/towers

Yep, that's why we do it local. And spares are then easier.
