Nice engine...but such overkill... I spent a lot of time looking into feasability of robbing parts off of those for the trusty ol V4 in the Saab since they have identical bore spacing, deck height, bellhousing, flywheel bolt up, motor mount locations...
also with the cam bearings between the valve, the end of the cams are just hanging out on the "offending end" the excess part that gets hacked off..
Now that I've also made cam-cores, that problem is solved...

But water passes out of the block differently---and I'd need the whole cam drive and cam cover and front covers..

In the end, what's the point?

I do stupid things, I waste time on stupid ideas, and even I think the 3.8 is a bad move no matter what your plans are. Complete dead end performance wise and a Duratec four would be lighter, easier to deal with, and just plain better.

Yeah they raced them in NASCAR but if you look at what the BGN engines actually were, absolutely nothing but the bellhousing and maybe the bore centers was shared with the 3.8. An R07 probably has more in common with a small block Chevy than a BGN engine has in common with a 3.8.

For some reason I think the 4.0 was a bit better for reliablity. A chip will put those around 240 hp. Brent's 08 Mustang was a hoot to drive after we did the chip, cai and exhaust. Then he found a 3.73 or so LSD and it was really fun.

The good thing about the V6 is you really won't need much more performance wise, they make plenty-o-power stock. That (imo) adds a huge amount of reliability.

its a budget thing as much as anything, i can buy a 99 v6 mustang for $1500 and drive it home
use a bunch of the parts, i.e. brakes ect as well as the engine and harness

but a 4.0 dohc engine is not going to be cheap, but if one falls in to my lap i would grab it

Makes sense. The 'bama guys chip those also with good results. Amazing what they get out of the new motor tho. Everyone has a 300 hp V6 nowadays. So unlike back in the early 70s when the shit hit the fan and big blocks were down to 8:1 compression and 250 hp.

We just swapped a 5.8 into Brents truck and pulled the 5.0. I watched on Ebay for a week or so and found a set of headers NIB for about $130. If you can't find headers the 5.8 manifolds are better than the 5.0 for flow. At some point a lot of the cars have a factory style shorty header tho..never paid attention year or application wise .

PS..Don't forget to bypass that stupid fuel pump safety shut off if we haven't talked about that before.

Just about what a 2300 SOHC turbo motor makes when using the T-bird ecu..
And they are 4 cylinders.....forged pistons out of the box...

want more since tires are free, turn OOOP the BOOOST....instant more torque.
