Wheel studs...
April 22, 2014 01:57PM
Finally getting my new car together... Mk2 chassis running Mk3 5 lug, which I believe is M14x1.5.

Going to be running Team Dynamics wheels, which I think want 60 degree conical lugs.

Any recommendations on wheel studs/lugs? ARP doesn't make any M14.

Did someone change them? I didn't think they'd used anything other than M12 since the 70s.

Did you buy Scott Leonard's car?

This is a new build... not Scott's old car.

It'll be Mk3 VR6 front hubs and Mk4 rear hubs. Both are 5x100 @ M14x1.5 based on everything I can find on the net.

Just found some stuff from H&R, but I question the "race strength" of them:

Thanks!

Ugh (groan)
Here:

Bugpack M14 x 1.5 x 2.2" long, chase the hole and press them in. Give them a little zap just for security

These are my default stud and I use them on everything I can get my hands on
like Modded Toyota 8" axle going in Volvo

And Volvo fronts, of course:

There are available open end nuts with either VW ball seat or normal taper seat.

Thank you.

I've been using MSI studs, though their nuts are too big for some wheels.

http://msiracingproducts.com/products.html

Don't get them too long so they don't get damaged.

There's a ARP Honda stud that's dirt cheap. The Bugpack 14mm are cheaper and a bit shorter, which is a good thing unless you're running huge spacers.

ARP Honda Studs, in a 5-pack!

Any press-in stud will require you to remove the front drive flange, and in the process you'll destroy the front wheel bearing. There are some nicer screw in types, but they may back out at some point.

Thanks John! Profile updated.

Robert, nope... just checked. The ARP Honda studs you linked wouldn't work for the Mk3 VR6 or Mk4 stuff that uses larger M14 bolts anyway. Bugpack seems to be the way to go.

Now to see if these 14mm nuts will fit into the Team Dynamics wheels.

You are completely right on that! Apparently VR6 uses 14mm studs, I can learn new things!

I also found these while I was verifying that: http://store.blackforestindustries.com/blsppostm11.html

Also, I should be hitting the machine shop tomorrow to finish up your adapters to replace the set that USPS ate.

2nded.

Found these: http://prosystembrakes.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=799
Bimmerworld also has thread-in wheel studs "Made by one of America's leading manufacturers of race fasteners" (Guessing MSI?) from $5-$15. Each.

Especially with the bullet end, you are adding rotating, unsprung weight.

That shit makes any of the pointless wanking that goes on here look like amateur hour.

Wonder if it would be ruled somehow "Justifiable Homicide' if somebody strangled the guy who posted shit like there.

I have used these on 6 cars over the past 14 years with no complaints and never had one back out.

On street cars, I use the cheapo $139 studs

On rally cars, I get the nicer "race" studs for under $4
