The Fire Breathing Monster is available for adoption

Yes, you have read correctly....

She has sat for too long.... I've not the time or money to abuse her properly.

My Baby..... a 1976 Volvo 262GL is available for adoption to the right home.

She has been a rallycar since 1996 or so.... Dave Clark did the rollcage and bodyshell prepwork + Multiple replacements of assorted bodypanels..... + updates to the cage as needed. Cage is tied to the firewall and to the struts.

Engine is the Volvo Peugeot Renault V-6 with H-Beam rods, Forged pistons and a nice big T-4 turbo..... Even-firing pulses and late model cylinder heads Breathe better then the early engine. Cross bolted main bearings and an oil-water cooler for the oil..... We got 504lb/ft at the wheels with just 11lbs of boost. I regularly keep it turned to 15lbs for stages for throwing rocks as far as possible to reach out and touch spectators + Bambi. It really came alive with turning the boost up to 15lbs.

Big Torque blew up all the drivetrain...... We fixed that.

The clutch is a Quarter Master three disc thing..... On/off...... Works great. I replaced it when I went through the Jerico after blowing up reverse..... Reverse is there so that you *may back up... not back up whilst attempting to apply stupid torque. oops.

Transmission is a Jerico four speed..... Think Nascar with an H-Pattern shifter. It's the shizzle. Ratios are just so. It got gone through with different ratios to match the final drive when that happened. Not many miles on it.... Shifts like new.... It is a dogbox with straight cut gears that aside from reverse.... You're not going to blow up.

Differential is a Ford 9" with a 3.0 final drive ratio on a spool for consistent handling and no blowing up limited slips.... 35 spline Moser Engineering axles and 5/8" wheel studs so that they would stop breaking. Rallytires will apply a LOT more torque then seems possible on gravel. Really! Top speed is 145 or so. Yes; we managed to break and bend every damned 'unbreakable' thing that there is on a Volvo.... On gravel. Priceless was when practicing on graveltires with stock control arms..... Tires are warmed up..... Apply brakes firmly stopping.... Steering gets wierd.... Stock control arms bent under braking. Never did that on tarmac without hitting something.

So yeah..... It had better turn huh? It does.

JVL did the Quickrack with guts he ordered up from Yer-up and married them to the uber-rare ZF powerrack that was rare as Hen's Teeth in the '90s. It is Nice. 2.5 turns lock to lock. Big tail out slides are a no-drama event.

Strut tops are double-skinned.....
After a number of disasters with front suspension I ordered up Sellholm's $8000 suspension and brakes kit. Coil-over Struts, Brakes, Rotors on hats, Alcon Calipers, control arms with solid bearings for pivots..... In the rear it has Sellholm's pick of rear springs and shocks. Rear torque rods are HUGE rod ends so they won't get torn up. Ask how we know about this! Rear brakes are Brembo four piston calipers with vented rotors. Hydraulic handbrake. Knob in the middle to adjust brake bias. Brakes NEVER fade.

Exhaust is 3" from turbo outlet to the rear of the car.

Engine has Total Seal piston rings that let it burn oil when it is not loaded. It will smoke when idling or tooling around with hot oil. Never burns any oil when on the throttle.... However.... You will get told about how you are the only car smoking the rear tires for the whole length of a stage if you are driving it right.... Hee-hee. Are you man enough?

She never got finished after the last roll..... She needs paint, the roof needs to be tied to the cage, needs a turbo, Modern engine management would be good for it as the Electromotive is circa 1998 but works just fine..... For additional dough I'll finish things up or arrange for things I don't do like paint.

You'll get all my wheels, goodies and such that go with her.

I've not even come close to describing all that is in the car. I'll discuss it with a serious buyer.

Only to the right home.

This car cannot be duplicated for forty grand.

$18,000 to the right home. I'd prefer someone in the Northwest. P/M with questions.

I would much rather fight with you again....I don't think either of us had a proper chance to battle.

Plug my name and rally as search terms into 'youtube' and watch videos of what we've done.

We've reached out and left welts on many; brave or foolish enough to hang onto a camera for us over the years. The number of times I've had someone come up to me in service to show off a swollen shin or forehead in service with a big grin..... Hee-hee....

Sooooo..... No-one is up for piloting the most powerful Volvo rallycar in the USA?

I'm about $50k short of being able to afford an $18k rally car. Besides RallyAmerika would make me take the turbo out for a while, and they probably wouldn't let my four hours or so of Lemons experience count as coefficients.

Well how convenient! I could very easily rearrange the exhaust for use as Naturally aspirated while you cut your teeth....... It is still a three liter six with an 8.5-1 Static compression ratio.... It won't be an embarrassing slug and you sure as shit won't have to worry about the drivetrain while gaining experience.

Then your photos must be kinda boring. smiling smiley

Rule #1 of shooting rally: If you are not in imminent danger, the shot is not worthwhile.
Rule #2 of shooting rally: You are not to talk about rule #1 or #2 and they supercede any future rules that may be contradictory.
Rule #3 of shooting rally: Always stand in a safe location.
Rule #4: Bring one lens for each stage of shooting if John Lane's Volvo has entered event. You will need them. Alternatively you can shoot from behind a sheet of 3/4" polycarbonate.
