Since I have the princely sum of $1500 into this thing I might do it. Then again it might cost less to just buy a KTM.

Lots of Motard type bikes for around $5000 to $6000 but I thoguht I would try it out for less cash to start.

So, about 10 times the daily interest, 24 times the discussion, and 20 times the members. The original Sandblast Rally bike competitors were probably 95% ADVrider members.

Yup, on an event-by-event basis. If the organizer wants 'em, they can allow 'em. There's a little extra work to do (a different route book to put together and some pointer arrows on stage) so it's the organizer's choice.

The bikes essentially have to be legal, registered, insured, four-stroke dual-sport bikes. Safety gear is a helmet, MX boots, chest/spine protector, a triangle, and a first aid kit.

Yeah, let's get JVL out there on what I'm sure he'll refer to as "a big fat pig of a bike, completely unsuitable for dirt" or whatever. *grin* I'm in for $50 on the JVLOABPOABANN (JVL On A Big Pig Of A Bike At North Nevada) program. :)

Actually, I hadn't thought of this before, but with bikes, if one is only looking to have a good time (read "not a serious 'win' attempt"), an arrive and ride scenario could work. You find a legal dual-sport bike, I rent it for a hundred bucks, fly in with my my helmet, boots, and roll-chart reader in a duffel bag, run the rally, and fly out. One could get to go to lots of rallies that way. Hmmmm. Maybe in a couple years I'll do that. Oooo! Ooooo! Another idea! Spec class! Stock bikes. Something around 650 size. That way you really could fly in and have a great race. :D

Can you imagine the newer 950 one. That thing is ridiculous. I'm still throwing money at rally cars. I'm sure one of these days I'll get tired of it and buy a dirt bike.

Bike comes with two sets of wheels and brakes, one slicks with big brakes, one knobbies with small brakes. I'd probably take $5K. Gotta try and remember what I paid for it two years ago when I bought it (that was, what 3 rides ago?)

Its WAY too much bike for you (nothing personal, its way too much bike for me too), but that doesn't stop most people....
