JVL, you'll be proud

Hey John, in preparation for getting back in to rally _driving_, I decided that I better learn how to ride a motorcycle. ;)

I wrote up a little story for the RallyMoto(tm) guys and there's a couple pics there too.

I have a BMW K75 in the garage as of 3 days ago - I found a web site where someone turns one into a GS (dual sport) sounds kinda fun...

Since I have the princely sum of $1500 into this thing I might do it. Then again it might cost less to just buy a KTM.

Lots of Motard type bikes for around $5000 to $6000 but I thoguht I would try it out for less cash to start.

Yup, on an event-by-event basis. If the organizer wants 'em, they can allow 'em. There's a little extra work to do (a different route book to put together and some pointer arrows on stage) so it's the organizer's choice.

The bikes essentially have to be legal, registered, insured, four-stroke dual-sport bikes. Safety gear is a helmet, MX boots, chest/spine protector, a triangle, and a first aid kit.

Yeah, let's get JVL out there on what I'm sure he'll refer to as "a big fat pig of a bike, completely unsuitable for dirt" or whatever. *grin* I'm in for $50 on the JVLOABPOABANN (JVL On A Big Pig Of A Bike At North Nevada) program. :)
Acceleration like a Group B car for
> $5000.

You can get that from any post 1979 500 class bike.
For sure by mid 80s.

Pay a lot less than 5g.

Then you'll see why i say "All cars are junk."

The first and only time I rode a dirt bike was out at CORE. It's about a half mile from the track to the porta potty and so I hopped on a friends Honda 250 and was like, "I ride a scooter and I've rode plenty of four wheels so I'll be fine." I was, but the weight difference and higher center of gravity really threw me off. And having to poo the whole ride there kind of sucked. Anyhow, I'll buy a little motocross bike to go trail riding one of these days. Though the KTM 450 Supermoto bike from 2 or 3 model years back is absolutely awesome. Acceleration like a Group B car for $5000.

Hmm I just took the MSF class and got my endorsement - I rode on the street for the first time a few days a go on a Motoard bike during a test ride.

A minor blow to my confidance when the bike ran out of gas. It only took me a few moments to figure it out.

Hey John, in preparation for getting back in to rally _driving_, I decided that I better learn how to ride a motorcycle. ;)

I wrote up a little story for the RallyMoto(tm) guys and there's a couple pics there too.
