3.9 or 4.11 rear ends are not that big a deal when behind a big torque turbo motor.

Yes very interesting stage with the change in feel, we have a some like that here in the NW too, I did a stage on green diamond land that started out fairly fast and was supper narrow and tight at the end. Stillwater is a little like that too, fast and open at one end and many many linked turns at the other.

I tossed out the 50K number because that is what Toni said he spent on the car, most of us could live with Bilstines rather then Rieger, and other economies to cut up to $15k off the price.

For half the price I am sure a Volvo or Xtr4i could do almost the same.

I think Toni shows what fun we could all have (world wide) if we just drove harder in lesser cars. I read so many adds for used cars "$35K Subaru, $90K invested" good god who wants to spend $90k on a depreciating toy.

That looks (superficially, anyway) so much like Audi bits it's not funny. Of course unless you get spendy then you're limited to 3.90 or 4.11 gears if you want to keep the locker diff.
Under the Gr A rules they couldnt really change the geometry of the suspension. Only when the WRC rules allowed more freedom is when they went to the lateral link setup, instead of the old trailing arm deal.
> was the highest spec Escort before they started
> using the Fockus.

Yep. In the rear they used the huge cast aluminum upright from the front from a '89-90 GpA car, made some links a somple tower in the trunk and low and behold modernised it.

Interestingly I've read a few different places that, as we all know, the "World Rally Car" rules say you can turbo and fourwheeldrive-ize----abd make tunnels and towers "from a car built in a minimum of 25000 indentical cars".
Since earlier Ford had been very vocal about lowering the numbers of cars made to qualify for GpA and GpN, there were only a smidgen over 3,000 or something paltry
Escort Cosworths made---so a LOT of behind the scene horse trading was done to allow the Escort World Rally car to run.
