Affordable Cage Fabricators in the GTA/Ontario?

Before I slave away at a cage I wanted to know if there are any shops/people/shacks in Ontario that do cages for a reasonable price. I need the cage to pass CARS tech.

Thanks,

You can do all the profiles with a chop saw and grinder if you are willing to put in some time.
But a stick of remnant ERW in 1.75" and practice a bunch of 10-40 degree profiles on that before you build a cage. And a piece of soapstone.
Do I need to make a how to video?

Or I could just throw it on a trailer drive down to Denver have a cage built and a video made, 2 birds 1 cage !!!

First, I'll start with a quote that is applicable here.

Quote

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When
you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay
too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you
bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The
common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a
lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well
to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.” John Ruskin

Next, if you want a cage, built with as much interior room as possible, with more than the minimum safety in mind, and the ability to preserve the core of your tub along with the assurances it will be done on time, by an experienced person, using appropiate materials and billed at the price quoted when you agreed, then your best bet is to find a shop with a good reputation for building cages and pay their price.

But...If it is acceptable to you to skimp on any of those aspects, then expect the shop to skimp on additional aspects and not always tell you.

Or, do it yourself. It usually takes experience with about three cages for someone to start getting a sense about how to design a cage so that it works better than bare minimum.

A high price doesn't always mean it's a great cage. But it's hard to get a quality part for a bargain basement price. The few times I've heard of that happening, it's only because the cage was a small portion of an entire car build all done by the same shop.

An affordable cage that is well done usually means someone doing it on the side and subsidizing it with a regular job.
I've helped "fix" two wrongly done cages and had three others that were unfixable ie. cut it out.

I know at least one former cage fabricator that figured the price had to go over $4-5K to justify the time it took compared to the other projects he was working on. Automotive service pays well. We subsidize our cage building now by hopefully gaining some retail sales, tire mounting, etc. to our cage customers. We should charge more based on the man hours that come in. Luckily none of the three of us charge anywhere near what we make hourly in our other pursuits. Today I'm double dipping and have machines doing work for me across the parking lot while I'm working on three different cage projects. And I'm stealing labor by having Mark work on CAM stuff for cage feet so that we can use the CNC/mill for cutting cage feet. The machines are capable are generating around $2000 per hour in retail revenue, the entire day of cage work might get a quarter of that.

Hot Bits/Tonik Motorsports, try Peter Reilly
Rally/Race Developments, Ryan Huber
Ronnie O'Brien(?), I don't know much more about him but he did the Juggernaut Focus cages and they seem to be pretty good. Contact the Juggernaut guys, Andrew Kulikowski or Gary Sutherland

Ones that I know of which may be more expensive, but YMMV:
Four Star Motorsports
Can-Jam Motorsports
CSC Racing (not sure if they do CARS cages, usually they do other series from what I know?)

Sorry, I have no recommendation for a cage builder. My favourite is a long way away from you. But does the North American Cage Builder Map help?

Before I slave away at a cage I wanted to know if there are any shops/people/shacks in Ontario that do cages for a reasonable price. I need the cage to pass CARS tech.
