I went there with low expectations for enjoyment. I think they could start an hour earlier, cut the lunch break in half, and we would have more time to maybe see a stage and contribute to the local economy (the Gaslight) Saturday evening.

New England Forest was a bigger disappointment. Maybe I was wound too tight, maybe I'm whining too much, but I felt like I just wasn't wanted there because I wasn't part of the SRT Circus. I had two incidents with officials that made me wonder if I was at STPR.

Friday at the Mexico Rec Park we had two vehicles, just in case we needed ice or something in town. We left a car out with the spectators for the first two stages and then moved it in closer to service later after they were gone. There are two choices of where to park, one is an area with a whole bunch of other cars fairly tightly parked and a lot of people walking around.

The other spot is where we're servicing -- in the back part of the Rec. area. Since there were only about 35 entries, not the historic 80 plus, we literally have an ACRE of land to ourselves. So, being the logical person that I am, I elect not to squeeze into a tight area and instead park nearby the service vehicle -- some 200 feet from anybody else.

Despite this, some official comes up to us and whines that we don't have the correct color parking pass on the car to park there. I explain that I could smoosh in over with the others and dodge people while trying to park, or I can cause great trauma upon the rally and park in the vast expanse of land we have here.

Nope, have to have the right color pass. Allegedly organizers' rules.

Well, turns out they gave us two of the correct color pass, so we swap it out and he makes sure it's not the one out of the service vehicle, and then leaves. Apparently the RV, 3 trucks, tents, video game stations and 26 rental cars that the other teams had weren't a problem, but one car 200 feet from anything else was. Go figure.

Seems to me that if the public is all around, if you're not working on the car, you don't need a wristband. Maybe the person was having a bad day, but the confrontational tone was really off-putting.

Even if you do, it would be much more pleasant and polite to say, "Excuse me, could you do me a favor? If you're going to be in the service park, could you please sign the waiver and wear a wristband? You know how it is with insurance these days. Thanks!"

I understand that signing the form is important from a liability standpoint. Seems to me, every stage captain, every service park official, and all the stewards should have bands and waivers on hand at any and all times and make it EASY AND PLEASANT to sign in.

It was just such a change from years past, from when we've arrived late and worked controls without wristbands. I was just really disappointed that the rally with the motto "We always enjoy ourselves" wasn't particularly enjoyable for me this year. I've made it to every Maine Forest since winter 1997, and it's normally a highlight of the year.

I'm sure I'm getting all worked up over trivial things, but I never have these problems in Canada, and also usually get to see at least one stage while servicing (and have received VIP treatment when they see the service sticker on the car!).

And since this is now longer than Alice's Restaurant, I'll stop before I get banned from RA for life.

I've noticed some sound shift to some of the compressed files.
Look at the numbers and listen to the sound as close to the start and they should be the best.

The roads were much like Canada with Large rocks forming apexes (no cut!!) ss1/2/11/12 (same road used 4x) was pretty soft but the rest were decent packed & firm.

New guy (to me) Kent Gardam and I had a pretty easy time of it,
If I had to guess, I'd say the Jembas weren't as well tuned as usual.
We went wide on a L5 and the road off the road was better than the real road, I was expecting to see a dotted line painted on it. (meaning: we weren't the first ones there)

That makes 3 rallies and no dents or dings.
(one was 1/2 distance due to that darned 2wd axle deal)
That's gotta be a record of some type.
Pleased with how the addition of the 4wd made the Wimpeys look "slow"
after how they buried me at WVa.

Quantum Rally Sport Secures Two Championships with Win at Black River Stages

Josh and Jeremy Wimpey of Quantum Rally Sport claimed two championships with a win at Black River Stages in Harrisville, NY on September 28, 2007 http://www.blackriverstages.com. The event was the final round of the 2007 Eastern States Rally Championship (ESRC), and the win gave the Wimpeys first place for both the Modified 2 Class and the overall ESRC driver's championship.. Black River's stages were some of the most exciting of the season and consisted of a full day competitive racing that lasted well into the dark. The sights and sounds of rally cars and motorcycles drew crowds of excited spectators who lined up along the stages to catch a glimpse of the thrilling action while the brisk fall weather and scenery provided a wonderful backdrop to the animation.

Josh and Jeremy Wimpey of Quantum Rally Sport entered the event with the intention of securing both the Modified 2 class (M2=modified two-wheel drive) and the overall Driver’s and Co-driver’s championships in the ESRC. A smart race strategy brought those championship goals to fruition with a 1st place finish in two-wheel drive and a 6th place overall finish.

That race strategy was born when the overall championship frontrunner Seamus Burke withdrew his Mitsubishi Evo from the event leaving the door open for several other teams to chance a podium position. The Wimpey brothers would have to finish high in the standings to claim the overall championship wins. Gear selector issues plagued the team all day and prevented them from selecting top-gear on the high speed portions of the stages. In addition to the gear selector issues, the team was forced to use extra caution on the rougher parts of the stages when they realized a broken ear on the starter motor which is also integral to the front motor mount.

Despite the minor mechanical issues, the duo led the two-wheel drive contingent throughout most of the day. Most importantly though, a 6th place overall finish was good enough to claim the 2007 overall driver’s and co-driver’s championships in the Eastern States Rally Championship.

The final event of the 2007 season is an invitational-style shootout in Laughlin Nevada http://www.rallyusa.com where the fastest teams from the east coast and the fastest teams from the west coast are invited to battle it out for the United States Rally Championship national title. This will be the first attempt at a national title for driver Josh Wimpey who is excited to mix it up with the best teams from across the country as they race in and around the Grand Canyon from November 8th through 11th. “I’ve never done a race out west. We are super excited to have earned an invitation to the national championship and we hope to demonstrate that we deserve it by placing high in Nevada,” stated the enthusiastic driver.

Man I've never ever seen that. We've ripped off corners where just the lower bushing holders and the shaft remain, good ball joint. Done uppers ripped off, good balljoint.

Listen you may have some ideas but while your poking around, say how you dod you weld up of the lower arms---how tight is the sliding fit? I alsways would do the welding with a ball joint in position and the bolts tightened, then backed off like 1/4 turn. And that would result in a good tight fit, and I'd chamfer the balljoint where it's milled flat to a 45 degree break to make it easier to bang the ball joint in.
Also since I never use the 6mm front "sway bar" I didn't use the mounts that sat over the ends of the bolts and found that without the plates i was bottoming the nut on the shoulder of the a arm bolt, so you have a washer under the head of the bolt and under the nut?

Sumpin sure as hell is up cause I've use trillion mile POS Balljoints I'd pull off customer cars and never seen that kind of ball joint failure, not TRW, Lemforderer, not even Scan Tech.

Tell us what you find.
Shame about the DNF, saw piccies and the car looked nice and sideways like Gawd intended.

Death rattle, but unsure just where it's coming from. Stopped prior to ventilating the block. Very frustrating. I built the bottom as right as I know how, and with the best parts. Ran great and very strong, but started a low frequency knocking that didn't get better. Smoke out the back etc. I didn't touch the head, so perhaps something up there? We'll see.

As for BRS. The rally is awesome. Short stages, and a single day event, so not the West Coast rallies, but very little un needed Red Tape, friendly....just easy. Very nice. I wish all rallies were like that instead of some of these guys trying to run 'FIA' events that area huge PIA. Awesome roads out there. The one stage we ran a very competitive time especially considering it was my Brothers second co-drive ever, and first on Jemba notes (last was tulips).

Real let down though. Can't sell a car that isn't running, and hard to fault the car if it was an error on my part putting the motor together. VERY nice to have real struts in the rear again!. Spring rates and overal response matched the fronts extremely well on the jumps (there are PLENTY of jumps at BRS), and damping was pretty much the classic critically damped response. Installation was a snap with the rear Starion set-up, and the way things were arranged. And the nice bonus of having some rear damping was that we did not smash our new 2.5" exhaust system to bits.

Bent one of our front strut tubes about 20 degrees just above the spindle casting on the last stage; car drove fine and we finished, but I suspect that we pinched/crushed the lower end of one of the GAB inserts. We HAD a pair of the last few Starion GAB rally inserts that we know to exist; darn! So expect a call very soon......

Rally was great; PERFECT rally weather; rain on Th/Fr and no dust; good for driving AND for spectating. Very challening roads with some wild, wide open straights and also some very twisty narrow stuff. Nice to have all service and registration and rally administration in one single location. And a treat to get a hot breakfast in Harrisburg on Sat AM before the event. BRS is still a superb rally in my book.

RallyMoto field out in force. The fastest cycles were closer to the cars than at Sandblast; but they slowed more in the dark on the last 2 stages; it's hard to beat all those rally lights on a rally car!

We were unable to select 5th gear for the entire event (could have used it quite a bit surprisingly) and had a partly broken starter and front motor mount. We played the whole rally safe in order to secure 1st place in the OVERALL Atlantic Division Driver's and Codriver's Championships in addition to 1st place the M2 (aka group2) championship.

Luke Sorenson showed avery good speed but had ball joint failure---twice.

Motorcycles had a good time.

Randy Zimmer had a great run.
