After going through this and a few other forums for rally racing (the ones that are active at least) I figured this would be the best place for advice on how to get into rally racing, and the most realistic when it comes to harsh truths and whatnot. I've been wanting to get into rally racing for a little while now, and was wondering where I could go/what I could do to get started rallying. After looking at a few other posts in this forum i'm basically digging myself a grave by saying this but I have no idea about anything when it comes to cars in the mechanical sense, meaning I have no idea what to look for in terms of specs when it comes to finding a car to buy to get into the hobby. So if anyone has any good recommendations of a good program or something I can go through but also anything I can research or do to learn about car mechanics and how I could learn enough to work on a project car instead of buying an ARA ready car, as well as how to get into rally racing itself and start going to events and learn everything about how it all goes down.

Guys, I been building my 1992 Celica GT-4 ST-185 (USA) for a years now to make it competitive against new toyota supras and newer cars. The HK/KW/TRQ are all good, suspensions and brakes stuff.

But What I need is a better Transmission, looking for Straight Cut Doggie Box & Sequential Transmission. I have seen looking at the SQS Racing Stuff seems good and it is at a great cost only 4000 Euros,

Sqs Racing
460 15 Liberec
Czech Republic

But my concerns is that cost seems a bit low for a Sequential Transmission maybe the cost of them have gone down. I don't know I am just a rookie trying to make a fast car to compensate for my driving skills, lol.

I seen a few people on youtube but i am not sure if this is a true sequential transmission or just a sequential shifting pattern?

The other item i am interested is the subframe and differential housing mounting pointing points. Are there any companies out there that make the differential SubFrames like the Evo and STi stuff like this?

My last question here is the regarding the stiffness of the Celica GT-4, knowing it is an early 90s cars, what do you guys think about converting it to a single rail tube chassi car, similar to those used in pro-stock or pro modified dragsters. Since the Tube Chassi of these cars are designed for very low or no flex (plastic deformation) under heavy load for high HP (+1000HP) cars and all the structural steel connecting points are very similar to a basic FIA rally roll-cage. This would be great to improvement to the GT-4 overall body rigidity and would allow the car to make better traction. Are there any Rally or Tarmac Chassi Shops doing this sort of good work on vintage cars, trying to be modern day racers.

Sorry guys I just have so many questions about this sort of stuff because is hard find a shop that's willing to work on this model and are good at it.

Thank you everyone for any help you can offer on my questions above.

There is a discussion amongst some of us here in western Canada about resurrecting the old Group D class (or a variation there of) for at least 1 Western event during 2020.
The idea came about because of the number of pre '90 2wd cars just sitting not being run due to the current crop of 2wd inc R2's at the events.
We are thinking about allowing all 2wd cars with a model date prior to 1990 as a starting point, there would be no distinction between production or open and no displacement rules other than those in place by CARS.
The discussion has headed in the direction of having this at PFR due to the nature of the roads, the fact that it is a 2 day event and the closeness to the PNW for anyone wishing to come up.
If there is enough interest we would be looking at a self funded prize pool as well as our own plastic trophy for the first survivor.
So far we have got 3 AE86's 1 Escort and one TE Corolla on board. There is the possibility of a Volvo coming out to play as well just waiting to hear back.
The question is how many more would be interested in joining the old school class and having a blast?

Harnesses? Or even a seatbelt? Who knows?

A freaking helmet chinstrap? You gotta wonder.
I cringed when I watch this and hoped the driver survived but it didn’t look too good.

Her injuries were surprisingly small considering what could’ve happened.
Who speaks Spanish here? What does she say in the interview?
Car ran great with the new turbo 8v setup, and besides a 30yo plastic part failing on the throttle spool and costing ~1min on the 2nd stage at PIR, there were no issues.

Pat crashed my shop for a few days while he got his Volvo 244 ready for the rally and raided my scrap pile and street car for parts. He did his first event without any real issues besides a boost leak... which resulted in awesome flames shooting out of the exhaust!
Going for its 12th year, the modern High Desert Trails Performance Rally is now a must do event in Southern California. Since 1973 the roads Southwest of Ridgecrest have been home to the event, and takes competitors through fast and flowing valleys and tight and twisty forest sections in the beautiful high desert on county roads. Competitors tackle hundreds of miles with over 4,000 feet of elevation changes.

Quote

Subject: Pop-Off Valve implementation date delay

Issue Date: December 17, 2018

Bulletin 2018-06

The new pop-off valve installation requirement is scheduled for implementation January 1st 2019.

However we ran into some delays in negotiating the details with the supplier of pop-off valves.

The details are now finalized and the pop-off valves will be stocked in Canada and available from M2Motorsports out of Calgary. matt@msmotorsports.ca 1-403-708-0148

The price will be no more than $450 + GST/HST + shipping and will be firmed up once import duty is paid.

They anticipate having the valves in stock by January 1st 2019. The pop-off valves will be calibrated and tested before shipping but will be re-calibrated and sealed before competition.

The National Scrutineer will have a pop-off valve testing device at the national events.

As a result we are delaying the implementation date to May 1st 2019. This should allow teams time to purchase, fit and test with the pop-off valve set up on their cars.

After May 1st 2019 all drivers with a 70 or higher speed factor will be required to install the pop- off valve in all 4WD turbo cars.

What a surprise!
What is the model of that pop up valve?
Anyone have a part number?

I'm located in central Pennsylvania, and I'm interested in getting started at a couple east coast events in 2019. I could use a hand picking out safety gear and such. I'm familiar with notes and how they work, I've just never had to read them in car (obviously).

Website launched this morning. Glacierexecutive.com is live. Not the best name for it but it was the one I already legally own and have registered with the state. Basically trying to mostly do remote tire service, work really hard in Oct-Dec and Mar-May swapping snow tires onto peoples cars for them and then spending winter snowboarding and summer racing cars.

Note the "Motorsports Management" tab. One big benefit to using us to manage your motorsport team, we create a new LLC in Montana that you own and I am registered agent. In Montana, LLC's are allowed to license vehicles and there are no inspections, emissions, or otherwise.
There are also permanent plates for vehicles over 11 years old so you can in theory never have to get another license plate, emissions test, etc. for your race/rally car again if you choose to transfer the title to the LLC. NOT recommended as a tax avoidance method for trucks, trailers, daily drivers, etc. though as some states actively pursue high dollar vehicles and RVs with Montana plates. There is an entire industry up here for helping people in other states avoid paying sales tax on 300k vehicles.

If you are interested and are an existing rallyist, feel free to email or PM me instead of the hour consultation listed on the webpage.

Sponsorship - financial support received from a sponsor

How many people on here consider receiving a discounted product as receiving a sponsorship?

Does your opinion change if you discover that the company still profits at that price point?

Exposure is the only asset that a rally team possesses to offer a potential sponsor. Is accepting sponsorship that is still directly profitable to the sponsor devaluing the value of this exposure to a negative number?
For example,
Let's say I make $70 on a $100 product. You send me a sponsorship proposal and I say okay, I will give you 20% off all my products and you accept because it saves you $20 and makes you feel good about getting a sponsor. I still made $10 off of you so is the value you just assigned to that exposure equal to -$10?
The real fun part is if you consider scenarios where this "sponsor" sells wholesale at 20% off to vendors and sells very little direct to consumer so they really didn't even do anything special for you. Cough, cough, ACT, cough... Or better yet, they sell it at the same price on Amazon, cough, cough, Gorilla, cough...
