Mebbe put a nomex "SUCKS" right after NASCAR would getcha thru the crowds safely.

Good prices, correct ratings...even as a Halloween costume not a bad deal.

Those look like they will be way more flexible than the bulkier g-force suits. Since they are also NOMEX and not a treated fabric, they might be safer in the long run (has anyone documented treated cotton vs NOMEX over time and washing?)
They also have some in the tall and not so fat size too!

All of that stuff will be first rate quality. SFI labeled also. Looks like as long as you match the sizes..I'll bet it is all custom made for the particular crew guy and not off the hanger , one size fits all stuff.

Anybody been burned to a crisp and needed skin graft once the gangrene was under control?

Anybody documented what happens when the suits eventually fail and melt into the sizzling meat below.

Treated cotton we know it does not bond with the skin when it eventually burns, but do we know really what happens when synthetics ultimately melt?

I know real well what happens when cotton soaked in gasoline burns for a long time...

If we're looking for anecdotal evidence...

A few years ago there was a trailer fire at an event in Quebec, during recce. EVERYTHING was gone, the trailer burnt to the ground, buy the race suits left in the trailer looked practically new.

If Nomex suits presented risks in extreme conditions that treated cotton didn't, I doubt they would be the default material for high end suits.

Yes we do. Nomex does not adhere to skin even when it burns through. It does not melt ever, that's why all the oil and gas companies use it, because unlike rally, you are way more likely to (way less likely these days than ye old days) have something happen like an arc flash from equipment or ignition of some form of gas.

Here's Dupont's take on it, and they manufacture both types of fabric:

Answer:
Protective apparel made with Nomex® is inherently flame-resistant. The actual structure of the fiber itself is not flammable, which means the protection is permanent. The protection is built into the fiber itself and can never be worn away or washed out. When exposed to flame, the aramid fiber swells and becomes thicker, forming a protective barrier between the heat source and the skin. This protective barrier stays supple until it cools, helping to give the wearer vital extra seconds of protection to escape. Chemically dependent flame-retardant fabrics, such as Indura® flame-retardant treated cotton, FireWear® and FR rayon, provide a different type of protection. A chemical additive in the fiber or treatment on the fabric is used to provide some level of flame retardancy. The heat of the fire and the amount of time the fabric is exposed to the fire triggers this reaction. As the time and heat exposure increase, heat transfer and the resulting burn injury to the wearer increase dramatically as the flame-retardant chemicals activate. These chemicals and the fabric produce vigorous afterflame, hot gases, smoke, and tars that can adversely affect the wearer.

Yes we can have two piece suits. There has been a lot of research and a lot of testing into Nomex firesuits , real world testing. Seems like it works pretty well, especially when layered.
