Two weeks from today. Rumor is cable network coming to produce coverage. Outside Grand Junction so not too bad of a haul. Sweet road, most drivers lije it much better than pikes peak and still gravel. I'll be out in the BMW Chumpcar posing as a rally car.

Mostly ready to go. Few little things like bleed brakes and mount up tires but got skid and fuel line protection finished. Pretty stoked, first race as driver on gravel since 2009.

Welp, we made it through the weekend. Living like a pimp with 40 ft enclosed trailer with AC living quarters that sleep like six, fridge, stove, shower, etc. Recruited the owner of the company, Drew Miner of Advanced Motorsports Systems, to codrive for me which got me a reduced rate for their motorsports logistics program. Even had I paid it would have cost less than what some of my friends pay per month on their truck and insurance. Nice way to race/rally, definitely the way I'm doing it from now on!
Anyhow, the race went well considering it is a Chumpcar conversion which means codriver seat, skid plates, and stock springs, gravel tires. For some reason the gearbox would not downshift from 3rd to 2nd reliably so I ended up saying forget it and just drove the entire lower section in 2nd gear. The only place it never let me down shifting from 3rd to 2nd was the really fast section so I drove the whole course with only one downshift. Bit of a bummer, but still had fun. Kurt Hansen was out filming/producing coverage for MavTV. They had a deal for drivers that guarantees airtime so we paid for the 2WD class to be covered and did interviews and provided incar so hopefully that will be cool. My first champagne spray! Yeehaw! Drew did a bonus PBR explosion all over our competitors codriver while we were opening the champagne which was pretty hilarious. Nice to be back driving on gravel after 6 years since last competition. Too long, not going to let that happen again. Rusty but had a blast. In car from best run Grant Hughes |

I'm upset that he didn't swap in a spare box...must have a number of they laying around.. And I take offense he seemed in the video to be coasting up to the corners. I understand the box wasn't shifting, but were the brakes not working? But mainly I'm offended he didn't prepare a big Press Release---For immediate release---detailing the whole thing... And Dave speaking of neglect, where's your press release detailing why you weren't there? Or were? Family reunion. This has been the summer of piss poor timing. Missed the Continental Divide hillclimb a few weeks ago for a cousins wedding, which also happened to be the same day the PIT Rally (tarmac hillclimb) ran just 2 miles from my house. I also missed rally UT this weekend too...but I'm no longer beating myself up too much over that one. ![]() Dave |
