Scope Craigslist a lot. Search parking/storage as well as commercial and housing for things like "garage".
I don't know about where you're at, but I found a lot of places fairly inexpensive but unfortunately 60-90 minutes away on the opposite side of town. No go. After a year or two I found the place where I am at now, close to Interstate and Turnpike and near where I work, and only $300/mo for 600ft^2, most commercial spaces around here are double that plus utilities. Be patient but keep your eyes open. Be nice if it was bigger, but ain't that always the truth? With rollaround carts I can fit one of my cars sideways across the back and then two parked in front normally. Shame I have five cars, not three... There is a lot of right place/right time when trying to rent a property. You can get what you want NOW, or you can get what you can afford NOW, or you can wait until you can get both in one package, because you gotta wait for someone else to move out.
That's why it took me a few years. I didn't want to have a 3 hour round trip drive just to spin wrenches, and I didn't want to spend $1000/month. And it is the middle of May and it freaking snowed again this weekend and the garage is unheated. Bugger. Kurt Theil...good guy. was a yound hot shoe when I lived out in fawkin Bawstin in the mid 90s. He is a Volvo guy trapped in a VW Golf..he wandered off and did some roadracing and ice racing and then duisted off the old Golf a couple of years ago and has been having fun again. He's somewhere aroundf there. Here's his link HERE http://www.rallyanarchy.com/phorum/profile.php?5,15023 He's bad, doesn't read the rules so no city/town location.. See why we stress that so much? Thanks, Dave..I figure the kid can gooogle the shop addy and figure if he wants to go talk to Kurt about the wisdom of 240 Volvos...like his big brother used to run..and like he keeps saying he'd do in a heartbeat with the right rust-free shell.. Got ya! Rust free 240's are pretty rare out this end of the continent. Have to go west or way down south! |

I told him they don't have Passport Controls at the NY Border---the do at the Mass border and we know why---he can just get on i-90, set the cruise and he's here in 3 days of easy driving.. Load a couple rust-free ones up, have a beer and shoot the shit and back you go.. Way better driving than laying there fixing rust. Then he can fufill God's mandate, and like his bruva, get sideways for cheaper than about any other car and certainly faster for less. ..Look:

BIG UPDATES!!!!! Found a nice older brosef renting this weird garage /apartment thingy for $300 a month including electric 15 minutes from my house. And he 's letting us/ wants us to build to suit. And my new roommate is going half on it with me. Now I just have to decide if I should use the rest of my disposable income for the next month and a half on Tools/Equipment or finding a volvus 2Horny

Pete, youse a mechanic, what should we tell the kid to get for a sorta shop minimum? Little cheap 2 1/2 ton jack harbor freight jack stands x 4 something with a brealage warranty 3/8 and 1/2 ratches with the thumb reverse like this: 3/8 and 1/2 drive breaker bars so he doesn't kill the ratchets. sockets: 6/7/8/10/12/13/14/17/19 3/4 swivel socket: ![]() For the 240 starter bolts---a breeze with these, hell without.. Combo wrenches GOOD pozi-drive --not Phillips--screwdrivers in short and stupid long. Good straight screwdrivers stubby, normal and long.. A BIG pry bar: ![]() A couple of GOOD hammers: ![]() what else? Minimum so he has money for a car.
