Carl: STPR Insurance Company: What's an STPR? Carl: It's a rally. Insurance Company: What sort of rally? One of 'dem pep rallies? Or some political things? You going to protest and cause trouble somewhere? Carl: No, it's a car rally. People driving somewhat street-legal race cars down closed roads. Insurance Company: Oh, so you were going to race your car there then. Well, I don't know if we can cover you then. Carl: What are you talking about? I wasn't even at the event, and I'm not even racing my car there; I am going to service/spectate/work... Insurance Company: Oh, so what were you doing? Racing down the road pretending to be some sort of race car driver? We don't cover that sort of stuff you know! Carl: Wait... did I say car rally? I meant pep rally. I'm going to watch the girls dance around in tiny outfits. Insurance Company: Oh, well ok then, why didn't you just say so! Jeeze, you had me going there for a minute. |

A few years ago AIG tried to void a warranty of a waverunner that the previous owner had paid a kings ransom for. It was an extended warranty for... get this 99999 KM - on a watercraft ! The insurance companies don't even have the sense to insure for what's on the clock of a watercraft... HOURS !
I fought their Toronto office, then started sending faxes to their New York executives. Then all of a sudden, like magic... the Toronto office re-opened my claim. It took me proposing a metalurgical engineer to do a failure analysis to determine whether there was a catastropic engine failure of if it had first ingested salt water. It took 6 months of BS, but I won. NOW... in British Columbia we have 1 insurance company, that's right ONE. ICBC (Insurance Corporation of BC). You can get 3rd party liability for up to 200K through a third party company but all the other insurance has to be through them. When the corporation makes poor investments... our premiums go up. When a corelation between speeding and accidents is made... new fines are mandated by the insurance company. We're stuck with ONE company and cannot shop around. I'd hate to be on their shit list ! |
