Well I made the move to the RWD side!
I bought a 1979 242 GT. The car is in California right now so I will need to have it shipped, but everything is looking good! I'm just waiting for John to give me a price for the transporter, but I already have a few "plan B" if that doesn't work. ![]() It might not be the greatest car of all, but at least it's rust free and in good working condition. It also comes with a car full of spare parts, like springs, suspension arms, extra windows, trims, etc. http://s196.photobucket.com/albums/aa105/krg1971/1979%20GT/ for all the pics if you are curious. As of now, the plan is to get it registered in Quebec and drive it around to see how it goes. After that, I'll start upgrading it as needed and will use it for lapping days and rally-cross to get used to it. The cage will probably go in during next winter since my friend's busy season is coming up and he won't be able to do it during summer time. Anyways there is no plan in rallying it before the 2009 season. I'll start looking at John's suspenders now, I think I will need them soon! maybe not need them, but want them for sure! Francois |

Awesome! The biggest thing is a rust free shell man! Up here, the engines don't rust, so finding that stuff is no problem.
As long as the spares will fit in the car with room for it to be driven onto the carrier (cheaper) then get em... otherwise have the dude trash em. Most of the stuff isn't hard to find and not worth a boat load to ship. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

I don't want to pay extra for parts I won't need for years. My storage space is very limited too, so I have to take that into account. Francois |

There was a 79 DL 242 sitting in Culver City in an auto cocoon in somebody's garage for $700 two weeks ago. Looked like it was in pretty good shape. If anybody's interested, I still have the guy's email and would be glad to pass it along ...Brian... |

Nice score Francois!
To those interested in such things: There is a 242 shell near Sacramento Ca. that is close to going to the yard. The story I got is that it is nice and straight, but sat for a year with the doors off (?!),so just about the only thing its good for is rally. Its free for the hauling. The more the merrier! -Aldo |

Hey it's home! Finally! Took over a month and a grand more than I tought, but it's here!
![]() Front shot ![]() Already replaced the original GT wheel which was all covered in 20 years old electrical tape with this one ![]() I think it needs a good clean up! ![]() top shot ![]() looooooooouvers! back to the 80's!!! ![]() No there's no lug nut missing, it's just a regular nut that's there as a "lock nut" ![]() worst part of the body I think ![]() That is why it took me almost 3 hours to fix the sunroof... And as soon as I finished I remembered I need to have it welded shut if I want to rally it... 3 hours wasted. ![]() The engine with Californian surprises... Water in the coolant system and in the windshield washer! We don't see that here! ![]() As you can see, I got a pretty solid car, but not a very nice looking one. I don't really care as it is rust free and I hate rust. Did I say I hate rust? oh and I'm starting to like it the way it looks! Maybe I'll just fix it, turbo it and keep the paint as is. That would make a good master card ad when I'll beet subarats in it! - Old volvo 1000$ - Turbo conversion 1000$ - rally tires and roll cage 2000$ - Beating a subaru in a old almost paintless volvo : Priceless ![]() Do you know if there is a good way to keep it looking like that but without it getting worst? There is a pretty nice GT interior under the covers and I have all the trims (except the trunk badge) in the trunk!
But I doubt I'll go show car... I think I could go historic rally car though! I even have the original spare (weird shit!) and the original jack (weirder, not even sure how it works!). I need to take pictures of these 2. Francois |

Looks like a good car! Oh and all Volvo jacks are wacky. Not sure what you mean about the weird spare? All my volvos have normal full size spares (I don't have anything that new though).
